Shine 100 Completes One Year; Sells 3 Lakh+ Units

Honda Shine 100 sales have been encouraging for the company and the entry level motorcycle has just completed its first anniversary…

Surprisingly, 100cc was not working for Honda despite the fact that it tried various products – targeted at slightly different set of audience. This is when the Japs went back to the drawing board and thought of trying out the extremely popular and insanely successful ‘Shine’ moniker on a slightly smaller model in the entry level space.

This is how the Shine 100 was born and Honda informs that it has completed its first anniversary. The good news is that Shine 100 could be called as the first official hit from the company in the entry level space. In its press note, Honda says that it has sold over 3 Lakh units of the motorcycle which averages to around 25,000 units a month.

We had tested the motorcycle last year and came out impressed by what it had to offer – at a significantly lower price than arch-rival Hero Splendor. Interestingly, Honda hasn’t increased the tag and it is still offered at Rs 64,990 ex-showroom Delhi.

On this occasion, Honda conducted mega delivery events of the Shine 100 in various cities of the country. Apart from its attractive price, Shine 100 comes with various practical bits – 12 of which I had listed in the video below..

With the help of Shine 100, Honda went precariously close to TVS Motor for that third spot in the entry level motorcycle space. Here are the numbers till December. I will also check if the transition happened in the latest sales data that I have and create a new story soon.

There is a possibility that Honda may want to create some new variants of the baby Shine to ensure both – 1) that it remains attractively priced and 2) that it also becomes more profitable. This will also allow people to have more features in the package.
