Honda’s 500cc family will remind you of those brothers in Bollywood flicks who get separated when kids and who then grow up following professions on either side of the law; and one of them straddling the border dividing the 2 sides.
The CBR500R is the sportiest of the 3 with committed riding position but not entirely. It comes with lower handlebars and minimal bodywork making it more versatile than the fully-commited ride of a supersport. The bike is comfortable for commuting as well as for leisure rides during the weekends. The chassis, the steel tube frame, and Honda’s Pro-Link suspension is sport-tuned for a more adventurous riding. The bike comes fitted with ABS as standard.
The CB500F is the most pocket-friendly bike in the 500cc family. The CB500F is the naked version of the CBR500R but with more relaxed and upright riding position for the rider as well as the pillion.
The adventure-touring CB500X comes equipped with an adjustable windscreen, larger fuel tank and a generous amount of suspension travel for dirt bashing. The CB500X has wide handlebar and relaxed seating position for long distance on/off-road trips. The 500X comes with optional ABS with a premium over the non-ABS 500X.
CBR500 Series Specifications:
All the three 500s share the same 471cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine with DOHC and 4 valves per cylinder and produces 47.5PS of power output and an interesting 43Nm of torque, however at 193kgs it is heavy! The transmission is 6-speed.
Now, why are we blabbering all this?
Because, as informed earlier, Honda showcased a gorgeous specimen of this two cylinder motorcycle at the Auto Expo. Internationally CBR500R is offered in three colour options – black and red solids and Pearl White/Blue/Red in triple tone which is what Honda brought at the Expo.
Along with other models, CBR500R was one of the bikes that drew crowds to Honda’s stalls and this is the first time Honda has brought it to India.
Now what makes it a little confusing is that Honda has confirmed the bigger CBR650F’s production in India from 2015, however, they have not talked anything about this baby CBR. We are still hopeful of the CBR500R making it to India sometime later.
