Honda’s 500 platform was always a point of real interest for Indian bikers. There have been many rumors of its home coming. And after a real long wait, Honda has brought it to India, albeit at a price that many would be disappointed at.
Through a press note, Honda has announced the official launch of its mid-sized Adventure CB500X. The 500X is the first model from this platform to be made available in the country. Other models on this platform are CB500F streetfighter, CBR500R sportster and Rebel 500 cruiser.
The CB500X is powered by a 500cc, 8-valve, liquid cooled parallel twin motor that pumps out 35 KW (47.5 PS) of peak power at 8500 rpm and 43.2 Nm of max torque at 6500 rpm. That, then makes it sit between the 390 Adventure at one end and Versys 650 at the other. A direct competitor would be Benelli TRK502.
Key features of the motorcycle include Full LED lighting, long travel 41 mm front suspension, taller windscreen, assist and slipper clutch etc.
ADVs generally have very high seat heights, however, Honda has engineered the 500X with a very manageable seat height of only 830 mm. This will be perfect for most average height bikers.
The CB500X is also equipped with Honda’s security system (HISS), a negative LCD display, along with emergency stop system. Braking is supported by a 310 mm petal disc at the front and a 240 mm petal disc at the rear. As expected, the motorcycle gets dual channel ABS as standard.

Honda has informed that, unlike the CB350 range (that is made in India), the CB500X is imported as a CKD (completely knocked down units) which attracts hefty taxes. However, this is still quite a lot of money for a motorcycle of this size.
