Hero Discontinues Xtreme Sports; Moves Out of 150cc Segment

Hero Xtreme discontinued; Hero is no more a contender in this segment but a derivative of this engine will be updated to BS6…

Hero MotoCorp is resurrecting its product lineup. It appears to be weeding out motorcycles that it feels will not bring it volumes and hence, it does not make sense to invest in them for upgrade to the upcoming Bharat Stage 6 emission norms.

In its pursuit, it killed the Hunk, Impulse few years back and Achiever last year. The only 150cc motorcycle it was selling till a few months back was the Xtreme Sports – a bike which carried Unicorn 150’s engine and produced a lot more power than what the Honda made.

Hero Xtreme Discontinued

According to the official SIAM sales data, Hero dispatched Xtreme Sports at least till October 2019. However, there has been no new dispatches ever since then and in a latest update, Hero has taken the motorcycle out of its website (along with Achiever). It was listed in the menu as well as product page at least till January 2020.

Hero Xtreme discontinued
Hero will continue to sell the Xtreme 200R

This is a confirmation that India’s largest seller does not intend to update this Honda-sourced 150cc engine to BS6 compliance. However, its not that this engine will be discontinued completely. Because, Hero’s 200cc motor (on the four new motorcycles – Xpulse twins and 200cc Xtremes) is a derivative of the same Honda’s engine.

This means that Hero has moved out of the 150cc motorcycle segment and is not selling a single product for now. Hero’s absence from this segment may not be good news for other rivals because it (Hero) was hardly doing any numbers here since the last many years.
