A mysterious test mule has been snapped testing in India. Is it the all new Hero Xtreme 125R (if it will be called that) – a Raider rival?
Hero is trying to up its game in the premium motorcycle space. Apart from regular updates to its 200s, it recently launched the Xtreme 160R with a 4 valve engine – which provided a bump in power along with other sporty features.
And barely a few days later, a mysterious test mule has been snapped somewhere. The RJ number plate (Hero’s R&D center is in Jaipur) as well as the Hero badging on the engine cover reveals that this motorcycle is being tested by Hero. Now that we know the brand, let us try to decipher what could this be…
At the recent Xtreme 160R 4V’s launch event, Hero revealed that there are two 125cc motorcycles that it plans to introduce – one of them will be in the Sporty segment (similar to Glamour in Hero’s speak) whereas the other would be the more interesting ‘premium’ version.
Now this test mule resembles that premium model with that low-set, aggressive looking headlamp and humped fuel tank. What further pushes this possibility is that engine – which appears to be similar to the Glamour’s motor, in outer appearance.
If this, indeed, is that ‘premium 125cc’, than we have a worthy TVS Raider 125 rival in the works, which could be called as Xtreme 125R or something else. For ease and reference, let us call this as Xtreme 125R, till we have a confirmation on its original name.
Considering the path Hero is traversing, this could be propelled by a 125cc, 4 valve engine that could belt out good power figures. In terms of features, this one could get all-LED headlamps, split seats, digital instrumentation (with Bluetooth connectivity) and a very sporty design.
Surprise – Data Reveals That Hero is STUCK in the 150-200cc Segment
Why 125cc?
If you are regular to BikeAdvice, you would know that Hero has been pushed to the third spot in sales of 125cc motorcycles. This is for a maker which enjoyed the number one status for many months/years – with its Super Splendor and Glamour (here is the story). In order to reclaim its lost legacy, Hero is trying to consolidate its 125cc portfolio with motorcycles in various sub-segments so that it can cover them all.
We do not have a timeframe, but things should get clearer about this motorcycle’s launch sometime before or around this festive season.
