Bajaj to Focus on Premium Segment: It Earned Them 45% Revenues in Jan-Feb

Bajaj Auto was trailing the competition till last year in the domestic market. However, their renewed interest and aggression in the local market has got them the dividends they were looking for, in this fiscal.

Bajaj registered total sales of 1,86,523 units in February 2019 which are six percent higher than what they were last February. If we add up exports the total numbers see a rise of 16 percent to 3,27,985 units. In Year to Date numbers, at 23,21,107 domestic units, they have sold 28 percent higher number of motorcycles with one last month to go before the financial year ends. Including exports, Bajaj registered a growth of 26 percent by selling 39,13,335 units as compared to 30,99,395 units during the corresponding period last fiscal.

In an interview to CNBC TV18, Rakesh Sharma, executive director at Bajaj Auto, said that in January and February, revenue contribution from premium motorcycles rose to 45 percent from relatively lower numbers in the preceding months. He also elaborated that Bajaj’s focus is on expanding the premium motorcycle segment.

Considering that Dominar is the costliest Bajaj motorcycle, it may have the highest margins for the company.
