No Pulsar 200SS till End of This Year (?) as Bajaj Concentrates on Discovers!

Market share! A company’s success all boils down to this, market share! It does not matter how technically sound you are, but if you do not have a strong hold over the market share, you are not successful! Bajaj seems to be following a similar trend. They are trying to get back to the 24 per cent market share level they were, back in 2013. And they aim to do this by October-December this year.

Bajaj-Pulsar-200SS

The management at Bajaj Auto knows that the only way to succeed in India is to concentrate on the mass market 100-125cc commuter bikes, and that is the segment which Bajaj aims to channel all its energy on: the Discover. This report, published in DNA, a confusing one, may just have stated something which we would not like to comprehend.

Apparently, Bajaj is planning to launch at least two new Pulsars in India this year – Pulsar 200SS and Pulsar 150NS. At least the faired Pulsar 200SS was/is expected to be launched within a couple of months from now but the report says something else. It quotes Bajaj’s President of Finance, Kevin P D’sa who says that the company’s current focus is on Discovers for the next 6-7 months and though, they have ‘products in the Pulsar’ range ready, they will launch them by the end of this year!

The Chakan based company wants to focus on two or three variants of the Discover instead of having too many models in a segment, which becomes very baffling for the customers. Finally, some sense prevails!

Just a few days back, the first ever spyshots of a faired Discover made way. This upcoming motorcycle is speculated to be called as F150 and could be a 150cc model. According to an earlier report, launch could be as early as next month. (more details)

But putting one brand at bay and concentrating on the other is something which do not make a zilch of a sense to us. Is Bajaj getting too wary of the competition and ‘market share’? We would still love to believe that Bajaj would/should launch the Pulsar 200SS very soon in the market!
