Apart from New Pulsars, Bajaj to Launch a New Platina & 125cc Discover Next Year!

Hamara Bajaj has come a long way. From trying to fight the combined might of the Hero Honda group of the days gone by to now the war between Hero, Honda and TVS, Bajaj does have a lot on its plate. Even in October the Chakan based motorcycle manufacturer missed out on the third spot for domestic sales at the hands of TVS by just a whisker of 13 units. Truly, there is many a slip between the cup and the lips!

So does Rajiv Bajaj think that his decision of stopping all work on scooters a mistake? Nope, not at all, he rather wants to climb all the steps by being just a motorcycle manufacturing company. While all the hoglight has so far been on the Discovers and Pulsars, the basic entry level motorcycle Platina has been left alone.

Now as per a report on Business Standard, the company is planning to resurrect its Platina brand with a ‘significant’ launch sometime next year. It is not clear if there will be an additional bike that will be launched to supplement the Platina or the lone motorcycle will get a comprehensive update.

Whatever it will be, this would be a helping hand to a section of their product line which has been doing well despite not getting a shoreline to tread on. A new product in the entry level motorcycle segment will definitely boost things.

The company further plans to bring out a new 125cc Discover (not again!) and it appears they are doing whatever they can to snatch some sales from the now-best seller in the segment Shine. Apart from this, they already have upcoming products in the Pulsar lineup – Pulsar 150NS, Pulsar 200SS etc.

The company hopes to reach a market share of 30 per cent by next year (they are presently at 20 per cent). So do you think Bajaj, apart from being an export leader, will be able to turn the tides and hit back…?
