Upcoming Aprilia’s 300cc bike will be performance oriented and the CEO is promising a lot with it. He has also revealed its launch timelines…

The Italian Aprilia is known for its sports motorcycles. However, quite contrary to that, it started its Indian innings with a scooter. The good thing about it is the fact that the SR range does not follow the conventional ‘scooter’ regime and is probably the sportiest scooter in the country.

Quite obviously, motorcycles were always expected from Aprilia. It showcased two – RS150 and Tuono 150, at the 2018 Auto Expo. Both the concepts were miniature models of the flagships RSV4 and Tuono V4 respectively. Aprilia kept saying it is making them for almost two years, just to ditch them recently.

It says the growth in premium 150cc segment is not as per its expectations and hence it is now considering bigger motorcycles around 250-300cc space. Diego Graffi, Chairman and Managing Director at Piaggio Vehicles, believes that affordable premium motorcycles, upto engine capacities of 350cc, are growing at a good pace.

He justifies this longer duration by promising a ‘different‘ product.

He elaborates that the upcoming motorcycle will stand for performance and the company will not be chasing sales numbers with it. He, in fact says, that it will possess performance ‘never seen before’ in this segment. Since this is likely to be an India-specific motorcycle, we expect it to sport a since cylinder engine but with high specs and features – similar to the KTMs.
