Aprilia 250-300cc motorcycles launch expected; MD confirms the plans. Does this mean we are getting the GPR 250 with India-specific changes?

It all started when Piaggio showcased RS150 and Tuono 150 concepts at the 2018 Auto Expo under its Aprilia brand. It revealed the company’s intents of tasting the volume motorcycle segment of India which got further boosted with the positive response both the motorcycles garnered.

Ever since then, there have been various speculations and official statements from Diego Graffi, Managing Director of the company. In a latest, an online report claims that Piaggio is keen to venture into the middle weight motorcycle segment in India.

Graffi confirmed the development and said,

Definitely, we are looking with a lot of interest at the motorcycle segment in India. It is natural, having a brand like Aprilia, which is well known across the world for winning in racing competitions,

The plan is to venture into the entry-mid capacity motorcycle segment with the Aprilia brand.

We are now looking more at this range (250-300cc). We need some time to introduce the products… But it is in our plans…

Going by the choice of words here, it appears that Aprilia will develop India-specific products (which can be sold in other India-like markets as well) or localise international relevant motorcycles for cost effectiveness.
