SURPRISE: Unicorn Beats All Apaches Combined in July Sales

Apache vs Unicorn sales – This is generally not discussed because there is no direct comparison between these two brands. But Apache seems to have had a real bad month this July!

Almost every manufacturer in the market is grappling with low sales. TVS, which lost almost 40,000 units last month (as compared to July 2018) seems to be severely affected. Apache is its most renowned brand which has been consistent in sales for the last many years.

However, in the month of July, it fell to 25,000 units (25,094 to be precise) which is its worst performance in last fourteen months. It was down by 25 percent as compared to July 2018 and lost almost 13,000 units month on month. The previous worst for Apache was 26,338 units it registered in December 2018. This includes all the Apaches variants – right from 160cc to 200cc (apart from Apache RR 310), TVS sells in the market (TVS does not report individual model sales).

In comparison, with sales of 28,250 units (a gain of 14 percent compared to July 2018) Honda Unicorn 150 outsold the Apache brand in the month of July. Unicorn, which is still having a dream run at the sales chart, has been consistently doing monthly sales of over 20,000 units (with the exception of two months of Feb and March 2019, and December 2018 wherein it amassed 19,925 unit sales).

TVS Radeon Review

Its sibling Unicorn 160, which was launched to replace it from the market is no more on sale. Not only that, Hornet 160R which saw a placement rejig (read major price increment) with the launch of X-blade last year, is also not doing very well in the market. It has been reduced to just 2500-3000 units in the last three months.

Launch-Ready TVS Zeppelin Unveil in 7 Months [Speculation]

But Apache is a very strong brand and it appears to be one really bad month for TVS and it will strike back to its former glory in the months to come. TVS has been caught testing updated Apaches on the roads (check spyshot) which are expected to be launched soon…
