The UC3, equipped with a fixed 3.2 kWh LFP battery pack, is capable of returning a maximum range of up to 122 km on a full charge
Honda recently showcased the QC3 electric scooter in India. The company announced that it will soon be launched in the country with a fixed 3 kWh battery pack which returns a range of 145 km. Now, the company has filed a design patent for yet another electric scooter in the Indian market in the form of the UC3 which was launched in Thailand and Vietnam a few days back. Honda is the only mainstream brand which doesn’t have a decent presence in the electric two-wheeler segment in India as both its earlier models, the Activa e and QC1, were discontinued due to poor sales.
Coming to Honda UC3, it is the first company scooter to be equipped with LFP battery pack. It went on sale in Thailand at a sticker price of THB 142,600 which roughly translates into Rs 4.10 lakh. Design-wise, the UC3 is a perfect amalgamation of a maxi-scooter and neo-retro scooter. While the front fascia makes it a maxi-scooter, the rear styling, side panels and seat shape are identical to a neo-retro model.
Honda UC3 flaunts a three-piece LED DRL unit at front which also doubles up as turn indicators. The LED headlamp is positioned right below the DRLs while the windscreen and charging socket is positioned above the DRL setup. The tail-lamp cluster also houses LED units and hence as we can see, all-LED lighting comes as a standard feature in the electric scooter.
In terms of features, Honda UC3 gets multiple ride modes (Econ, Standard & Sport), traction control, reverse assist, Type-C USB charging port, Smart Key with keyless start, regen tech and 5-inch TFT instrument console with Honda RoadSync. The e-scooter comes with 26 litres of underseat storage capacity. The Thai-spec model comes in Pearl Sapphire White and Graphite Black colour schemes.
At the heart, it has the 3.2 kWh battery pack which is connected to an electric motor developing 8 bhp of maximum power. The UC3 delivers a range of 122 km on a single charge while Honda claims that it returns a performance equivalent to a 160cc ICE-powered scooter. Riding on 12-inch front and rear wheels, the electric scooter clocks a top speed of 80 kmph.
Honda’s rival brands such as Bajaj, TVS and Hero are among the top five electric two-wheeler brands in India. In fact, its other two counterparts belonging to Japan namely Yamaha and Suzuki too have a decent presence in the e2w segment with EC-06 and e-Access, respectively, in the Indian market. Hence, we believe Honda to step up its EV game and soon launch multiple models in this segment.
