Scooter Sales FY26 in India: Honda, TVS Among Lead Gainers

The scooter industry grew by 18.5 percent on a YoY basis due to the strong demand in rural and semi-rural areas, fueled by the roll out of GST 2.0

The Indian scooter industry registered an all-time high sales in FY26 by surpassing 8.1 million units with a YoY growth of 18.5 percent. The two-wheeler industry had recorded overall sales of 21.7 million units in the last fiscal, and scooters continued to contribute decently in achieving these numbers. It has been learnt that rural and semi-rural circuits witnessed increased demand which was fueled by strong monsoon and festive season offers. The electric scooter sales crossed 10 lakh units with a market share of 13 percent in the two-wheeler segment.

Honda retained the top position with sales of 3.16 million units with a YoY growth of 11 percent. Though, the market share slid down from 41 percent in FY25 to 39 percent in FY26. The Activa continued to be the best-selling scooter in the Indian market. TVS was the biggest gainer in FY26 with scooter volumes touching 2.30 million units with strong YoY growth of 27 percent.

TVS market share in the scooter segment increased from 26 percent in FY25 to 28 percent in FY26. This growth was spearheaded by ICE-powered scooter models such as the Jupiter and Ntorq while the EV portfolio led by the iQube continued to dominate the e2w sales. Presently, the Hosur-based two-wheeler company has the widest electric portfolio in India with three models namely iQube, Orbiter and X.

The third spot was secured by Suzuki with sales of 1.15 million scooters as the Access 125 remained to be the top-selling model with generous support from Avenis and Burgman Street. However, the market share of the Japanese brand declined due to the overwhelming growth posted by TVS. Suzuki benefitted from the premiumisation trend as the buyers drifted more towards 125cc scooters from 100/110cc models.

Hero MotoCorp occupied the fourth position with sales of nearly 5.73 lakh scooters in FY26, which includes both ICE and EV models. With a rise of 46 percent in YoY sales, it emerged as one of the fastest growing companies in the scooter segment. The Vida range of e-scooters posted significant growth during the last fiscal, specifically the VX2 low-cost scooter.

Yamaha too posted handsome growth in FY26, followed by Ather Energy which registered 67 percent in YoY sales. The overall scooter sales surged post the implementation of GST 2.0 in Sep 2025 as the prices came down heavily and hence, they became more affordable and accessible for the customers.
