India remains central to Honda’s global strategy as the company plans to develop it as global manufacturing hub for midsized motorcycles
Honda will export made-in-India middleweight motorcycles to several European countries in the coming months. The brand is aiming to project India as its global manufacturing hub for key export markets. Presently, Honda motorcycles are shipped from India to 62 international markets. Now, it will start exports to markets with roads similar to India. Just so you know, the Japanese brand has a market share of approx 40 percent in global two-wheeler market.
Honda’s Corporate Update 2025 states that India is being prepared as a key export hub and shipping of midsized bikes to Europe will commence soon in a phased manner from this year. As mentioned before, Honda exports made-in-India bikes to 62 countries which includes North America, Central and South America, the Middle East, Africa and regions of Asia.
Honda will soon expand its export footprint in Central and South America with emerging markets like Brazil, Argentina and Colombia being targeted. The brand claims that road conditions and customer needs in these countries are quite similar to India, and hence made-in-India models are rather suitable for these regions in the Latin America. Hero MotoCorp, Honda’s arch rival, already exports motorcycles in these countries from India.

Hence, in order to ensure global expansion, Honda is emphasizing more on local research and development in India so that it can respond swiftly to the requirement of the buyers in a shorter time. The brand is increasing competitiveness across development, procurement and production operations in the Indian market.
This move is being supported by Honda’s R&D centre in Manesar (Haryana) and the HRID Solution R&D Center in Bengaluru (Karnataka). The teams at both these centres are working towards linking new new technologies through open innovation with a sharp focus on software, connected services and long term business goals.

India is the world’s biggest motorcycle market as annual demand surpasses 20 million units. Honda is planning to strengthen competitiveness across every segment in the country to achieve its long-term dream of snatching top position from Hero. It registered the highest-ever sales across 37 countries in the financial year which culminated on March 31, 2025.
