New KTM 890 Adventure R Spotted in India being carried on transport vehicle… Could be showcased at IBW 2022…
So, the new 2023 KTM Adventure R that broke cover a few weeks ago, has been spotted in India. Not being tested, but being transported on a 4×4 utility vehicle all tightly packed in plastic coverings.
This single image, captured at a fuel pump near the Bajaj plant, has fueled a myriad of speculations on the internet. Let’s add our own fuel to this fire –
2023 KTM Adventure R Spotted in India; Launch Planned or Personal Import??
The new KTM 890 Adventure R is the Austrian manufacturer’s latest wilderness-conquering machine in the middleweight segment – directly rivalling the Africa Twin and Tiger 900 Rally in the ADV segment.
Both of these popular ADV bikes are offered in India and are in good demand among ADV enthusiasts. So, is the Austrian brand looking into launching their contender on Indian soil??
Since the bike has been captured near a fuel pump near Bajaj’s Pune plant, it is being strongly suggested that KTM’s partner might have imported the bike in order to test it under Indian conditions. If this is true, then the ADV enthusiasts of India are in for a treat, as the newest 890 Adventure R has received a lot of mechanical & technological updates from its 450 Rally sibling to make it a very capable machine offroad.

Second on the list of speculations – Some whispers are suggesting that Bajaj & KTM might have imported this bike, along with some other uncaptured models, to showcase and gauge the customer feedback of these models at the India Bike Week (IBW) 2022 scheduled for 2nd & 3rd of December in Goa.
KTM India might be planning to showcase the new 890 Adventure R and some other models at their stall, very similar to how they showcased the 790 Adventure and 1290 Super Duke at the IBW 2019.
In the last of the speculations, we have to objectively mention that this bike in particular could be some lucky ADV enthusiast’s personally imported machine. The brand new ADV could be on its way to the Pune RTO office to get it registered for use on Indian roads.
Whichever might be the case, the true story will unravel itself in a few weeks. We do hope KTM is looking into bringing the highly capable R monikered ADV to our shores really soon.
KTM is calling the new 890 Adventure R the ‘hyper-focused’ offroader, inspired by their champion 450 Rally racing machines and equipped with the latest hardware & tech to allow the rider to take on the wilderness with total confidence.
