BMW G310RR launch expected next year…
The 310 platform currently spawns three motorcycles – the streetfighter G310 R and the adventure version G310 GS are sold by BMW whereas the faired sports version Apache RR 310 is retailed by TVS. It was believed that this will be it, at least for the coming few months. However, in a big surprise, BMW recently unveiled G310 RR at the BMW Motorrad Days in Japan.
G310 RR, as you see on this page, is shown in its concept form and it, quite naturally, is based on the same 310 platform. It is shod with carbon fibre which immediately reminds us of the TVS Akula concept of the 2016 Auto Expo. G310 RR borrows a lot of design inspiration from the flagship S1000 RR.
The clip-ons are low set (as compared to Apache 310) and the overall seating geometry appears to be more aggressive. Another difference with the siblings is that underseat exhaust. All the other 310s use conventional side mounted exhausts. Rest of the setup has been carried over, like the upside-down front forks, alloy wheels, disc brakes etc.
It will be interesting to see how BMW goes ahead with such a product and how do they create differentiation with Apache RR 310. Since this is a concept at the moment we expect a lot of it to get toned down – that carbon fibre is going for sure!

Now that the INTERMOT and EICMA are gone, chances are that BMW would showcase the production version of this motorcycle sometime next year, followed by its launch sometime later.

Since, the RR will also definitely be produced in India, like all the other 310s, it will purely be BMW’s decision when to launch the product in the domestic market. Being in the fast-growing entry sports segment, G310 RR will compete with KTM RC390, Ninja 300, Yamaha R3 and its own sibling Apache 310 (read its review)! However, according to how it has gone so far, pricing will not be to everybody’s liking…
