Benelli Zafferano is on sale in some South-East Asian markets…
The question is – Has DSK decided to give scooters a shot as well, considering that it is the fastest growing sub-segment in two-wheeler market here? Nothing else can explain a camouflaged spotting of a very interesting test mule – deciphered as Zafferano, by Team-BHP, Indianautosblog, and now again by Bikewale.
Zafferano is Benelli’s swanky 250cc fuel injected scooter which is powered by a 249.7 cc single cylinder engine, good for 20.79 bhp of peak power and 20.83 Nm of maximum torque. Heck, this is in the ballpark of Yamaha’s FZ25 in India!
Zafferano looks stylish and carries a dual-disc brake setup at the front along with a single disc at the rear. It gets 14 inch alloy wheels and fat tyres. In terms of all the dimensions it is bigger than the scooters currently sold in India and weighs a hefty 155 kg. That large windshield should be good for long distance rides.
With all this stuff, Benelli Zafferano 250 EFI costs Rp 45.550.000 on road in Indonesia which roughly translates to 2.19 Lakh INR. So, it does NOT come cheap!

Few days back DSK was also caught testing Benelli’s 250cc cruiser Patagonian Eagle in Pune in complete camouflage. Last year, they also tested Cafenero 150cc scooter. So, it is not very clear what has DSK in mind but let them take the charge in terms of scooters. Let us hope they introduce something interesting.. something more powerful, like this Zafferano. Simply because our mainstream Indian players are too occupied with 100 cc commuters at the moment!
