TVS Apache RTR 180 vs Bajaj Pulsar 180 – Part 2
Print This Post
Note: This article is the second part of: TVS Apache RTR 180 vs Bajaj Pulsar 180 2009 – Clash Of The Titans
Performance: Now comes the most exciting part of the comparo, because of the fact that both the bikes are targeted towards performance, primarily. First we talk about the Pulsar. Pulsar 180 was the bike which redefined ‘performance’ in 2001. Come 2009, the story hasn’t changed very much but sure has seen more competition. Pulsar 180 is very fast BUT put a Pulsar 180 on a weighing machine and you will come to know the reason of the bike losing out a bit to the competition. The bike now weighs a hefty 147 Kgs up from 142 kgs and these 5 Kilograms sure take its toll on the overall performance of the bike. Add to this, the fatter 120 section rear tyres which further aggravate the condition. Moreover, if we get a chance, we would love to ask Rahul Bajaj the reason of the bike shedding 1 Nm of that all important torque which further hampers the bikes performance. On the contrary, let me also tell you, despite all these factors acting against this bike’s performance, the bike manages to return one of the fastest performance times both from 0 – 60 and 0 – 100. The 0 to 60 dash comes in sub 4.5 seconds along with the 14 seconds it takes to touch 100 from standstill, which goes along with the 123 Kmph true top speed. After these figures, we were quite jubilant and surprised at the same time because we did not expect this Bajaj to do this much, this fast! Accolades to Bajaj engineering team!
Coming to the TVS stable: Being a full 10 kilogram lesser than the Pulsar (at 137 kgs), greater torque and relatively slimmer tyres, we tried to demystify the obvious and we got what was evident. The bike is a sheer performer and we must admit that TVS has beaten the Pulsar 180 in performance (although just), finally! The bike is an out and out scorcher. Does a zero to sixty sprint in less than 4.5 seconds with the zero to hundred dash coming in less than 14 seconds. Along with it, the bike goes all the way to a true 124 Kmph and revs all the way to 12000 rpm (with the absence of rev-limiter). Fast and furious might be the right word to describe this pint sized powerhouse as it just blasts away to glory when in full swing, full throttle.
Mileage & Braking: Not much to compare on the mileage front considering the segment of crowd these bikes are catering to, but then this is India and how can we underestimate this all-important factor. Both the bikes are extremely efficient engines fulfilling our insatiating appetite for power and very respectable mileage figures, at the same time. Apache RTR 180 would return a city mileage of something in the range of 39-44 kmpl with the highway mileage hovering all the way to 43-48 kmpl. Pulsar is more hesitant in drinking fuel. It returns a mileage of 41-46 kmpl on city driving with the highway figures close to 46-51 kmpl.
Apache comes loaded with discs both at the front and rear: 270 mm petal discs doing the duty at the front and 200 mm petals doing it at the rear. All this means lovely braking and the bike sure stops when and as ordered to. Had the tyres been Zappers, we probably would have seen an even better and precise braking.
260 mm discs do their job pretty well on the Pulsars front along with 130mm drum trying simultaneously to stop that 147 kilogram fiery beast. Not in the league of Apache, but they are good and work well under heavy braking aided by the MRF tyre set as well.
Instrumentation & Other Stuff: Both the bikes come loaded with the typical stuff they are known for – Digital fuel gauge, Digital Speedo meter which goes with an analogue tachometer and trip meters with the Pulsar coming in an all DC set-up to ensure you get regular and constant beam of light (or horn) at all rpms. It also sports a split seat and a clip-on which has been borrowed directly from the bigger Pulsar 220. The tank can guzzle down 15 liters of petrol at one time with the bike warning you when you have 3 liters of it left as reserve. The chain is also an O-ring which now comes naked to add to that oomph factor but needs more servicing than the regular covered ones majorly because of the Indian muddy conditions. The kick lever has been thrown away and the bike only has an electric start now. It also does away with the traditional toe-heal gear shifter and now comes with a toe-only shifter which has been moved back to enhance the sitting posture.
The console is blue back lit in Apache which makes it a charm to look at especially during the nights and sure looks better than the orange colored Pulsars console. Apache comes loaded with a clip-on and a 16 liter fuel tank and despite a very sporty seating position the bike still retains the kick lever (which is finding a dismissal from every bike these days, despite no fault of its) along with the electric starter. Both the bikes come loaded with a 12 volt 9 Ah maintenance free battery and 35 Watt front headlights. Apache has a distinct looking bull horn type split grab rails which sure are better than Bajajs as they also does the job of letting the pillion ‘grab’ them! Pulsar comes in 4 colors viz Red, Black, Blue and silver. Apache is also available in 4 colors with the always underestimated white color finally making way into the Indian bikes along with the sparkling yellow, matt gray and the ‘Black’.
BikeAdvice Verdict: With not much to differentiate between these two very evenly poised bikes, we were caught in a dilemma as to which bike to crown a winner here. Let us put it this way, in cities like Pune where the difference in prices of both these bikes is close to Rs. 3500 – 4000, we would recommend you the Pulsar 180 for its almost brilliant ‘everything’. This is the bike which does everything in the right quantity and probably would be the best value for money in its price range. It looks huge and superb, handles well, performs with aplomb and doesn’t just guzzle down fuel at its will.
And in places, where the price difference between these two bikes is very much negligible, we would advice you the bigger, evolved version of the tried and loved Apache RTR 160, the Apache RTR 180. We felt TVS made this bike with a lot of heart and it shows in almost every bit of the bike. Just that the vibrations are a letdown still, but can be neglected considering its innumerable pros. In the end, we would just put it this way. You end up buying any of these machines, one thing is for sure, and you would end up ‘enjoying’. So, what are you waiting for, hit the showrooms and book your favorite one.

i bought a pulsar 180 ug-4 for 70.3K 2 months ago … i’ve already done 2900 kms in it… its really a soothing experience to ride this bike in highways n average ride comfort in city traffic.. got mileage(reserve to reserve) in the range of 48-56 under different conditions..
Eventhough Apache 180 is marginally better in terms of performance, city riding and braking, it loses by a big margin to Pulsar 180 in the more significant areas viz., (Honda like)ENGINE REFINEMENT(huge leap forward when compared with earlier gen pulsars),Exceptional MILEAGE,VALUE FOR MONEY,STAIGHT LINE STABILITY and most importantly STUNNING LOOKS..

The TVS wins but just. I would prefer the FZ over these bikes. Fine it does not go as fast, but Yamaha quality is super duper.
NEEL on July 2, 2009 at 6:00 pm
yeah ~ !! sure the plastic body of FZ is really SUPER DUPER… who says this… R U GONE mad ??? and the build quality is such a horrible in YAMAHA fz 16…

It is a pro bajaj advice not neutral, very pulsar gives 50 mileage, some pulsars give only 38, and after all, rtr 160 is enough to take on the pulsar 180 aferall 160 fi produces 15.7 where as pulsars 16 bhp, rtr 180 competes with the pulsar 200 18 bhp with 17.5 bhp of rts180
Gurprit singh on July 8, 2009 at 7:37 pm
here it comes what i need, THE APACHE 180(17.3 bhp), my younger brother have Apache 160 RTR and we both love this bike coz it’s advantages over PUSLAR 180(only 16.5 bhp) : 1)its average 50 to 55 in the city
2)super pickup(far better than pulsar)3)handling, are Unbelievable in this bike and Riding this bike in the city and highway is very Comfortable.my friend have pulsar 180
since 1 year and its performance is very poor now..recentely i have a test ride of Apache 180 and it is Tremendous and i will defiantly purchase this bike.Puslar is Not Even near to APACHE in performance Even i have defeated!!!!!! the Puslar 200(18 bhp) with apache 160 RTR(15.3 bhp)in drag race….

ahem. someone, probably the reviewer just for got to mention handling, cutting cornors, the Adrenalin rush.. and stuff like tat.
trust me no other bike handles like tvs apache rtr does. cutting corners at high spees is like a cake walk…
deepak and bikeadvice.in have always been in favour of bajaj pulsar.
pulsar is indeed a good bike. but when it comes to a bike which s gotta go fast… its gotta go fast… and nothing pics up like the rtr does.. trust me.. i ve had a rtr 160 and a p180 ug 3… i mean i hate to drive p180 after i picked up the rtr.. its too clumsy.. with rtr the fun in riding is redefined… the initials.. when you wanna overtake any god damned bike, just downshift and wroom you go… even p200′s had a hard time catching me at the signals… i mean its pure fun.. and even after a year the bike feels the same.. just awesome… hail rtr…
kane on July 13, 2009 at 5:24 pm
Are you Nuts you idiot pulsar 180 ug3 generates 16.5 bhp and newer one generates 16.9.
Jack on July 28, 2009 at 1:19 pm
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bajaj is really making its bikes better and better.Refined engine, great increased power(17 BHP ),14 sec.0 to 100 timing what else do you need. The wider rear tyre makes harsh braking safe on pulsar. On apache u will go heavenwads.
Apache still vibrates after 80 kmph,so on highways it is nuts again. It will make the whole body aching on long rides due to vibrations.
And that too when price difference is 4000-5000,and Pulsar 180 is cheaper.I would certainly go for refined, stable, powerful and macho looking Pulsar 180.
One more thing first time, i have seen Bike advice saying good things about bajaj engine refinement. So it makes this bike even more desirable.
arun on August 18, 2009 at 2:16 pm
bajaj pulsar 150 is one of the best bikes ive rided. i own it too….
Malayali on August 19, 2009 at 9:01 pm
I am also planning for a new bike.the review done is appreciable.few things ,I gathered from Dealer Sources:
Pulsar180s new Engine is a great asset for long term usage.that is -you won’t need cylinder kit replacement every 50-60 thousand kms as some people had suffered during 2006 and 2007.the Engine is refined similar to that of a Karizma.TVS Apache is a local R&D on 1999s Suzuki Fiero 150cc bike.still a great one!
V. Vijaykishan on August 20, 2009 at 7:24 pm
I prefer the reduced weight of 10 Kgs. of Apache 180 and other
refinements over 160. TVS might have given still better rear tyres.
Gustaakhi Maff Karein on August 25, 2009 at 6:23 pm
I apologize for my general statement made earlier favouring Pulsar 180.I checked Apache 180 and I can’t stop appreciating TVS’s passionate work resulted in a great bike – Apache 180.Vibrations are an issue;but the bike is a winner.Engine is designed and implemented by AVL of Austria. It is no more a Suzuki Fiero Clone which Only the earlier Apache 150s were.

thanx sooo much fr the review it helped a lot
i think ive mede ryt decision to go with the pulsar fr its bigger n imposing looks
i got the mileage in City Area tht’s 55 KMPL in harsh traffic and i think it’s too gud to see the features of this bike.
and the balancing and pickup of this bike is much better thn earlier pulser 180. and the look of the bike is much impressive thn tht. so i guess if it can give the mileage 55kmpl in city area thn suerly it can give 60kmpl or above in highway. and it’s also depend on the rider wht kind of ride he is doing if you r doing rough ride thn u can’t get better mileage with tht ride. so tc of ur bike and ride properly

I have a new Pulsar 180 DTSi 2009 edition… i rode the Apache, its good no doubt, but it feels too small for me (i’m 6’2″
).. so i decided to go with the Pulsar… i can only say, i’m glad… looks are killing, performance is superb and the thrill of riding is too good… i believe the choice is personal, but Pulsar 180 is the best for me… all my friends envy me and even a guy waiting for his apache was left deciding again after he rode my pulsar!!
too good, too good..

are you sure you clocked 136 with a stock bike because i m planning to buy a bike but i m confused what to buy between the rtr180/ fz16
i use to love the pulsar but with the fairing it has lost all its charm
Dan on September 21, 2009 at 9:14 pm
I must say the review were gud… the pulsar180 is not bad, well they(at bajaj)could have done better with the looks like what yamaha did to FZ16 an gave it the name Fazer he he he he…..i would consider a better looking bike atleast…. The Apache RTR 180 is a gud bike with rear disk brakes, kick start option, power, an price(Rs.71,175/- in Goa)seems gud tooo i would consider the Apache.
well but i still cant make up my mind which bike to buy between the two.. u c all i need is a bike in the same 180 range which has good service and less maintainence an gud mileage,an i luv a gud looking bike with power….

new pulsar 180 is the best than apache180,there is no doubt.i tried both the bikes.i rode apache at 115kmph it was viberateing like hell,at the same time pulsar didnt vibrate at all.apache’s top speep is more than pulsar but the vibration is so high tht one could not go beyond 110kmps without panicing.at the end it is a tvs produt how much can u expect, bajaj is already established…….PUL$AR RULES….
sreekanth on October 19, 2009 at 3:32 pm
guys plz tell me which is the best bike among these
(unicorn,fazer)
plz soon i am buying in 2 days
Rohit on November 6, 2009 at 9:04 pm
I don’t have any of them, i.e., Pulsar 180 or the Apache 180, though i will buy one soon. Only thing i can say that when a pulsar overtakes somebody with a grunt, the impression that it leaves on the overtaken person is awesome…Don’t u feel like this…Maybe not, but i feel like that way, and the Apache can’t sent shivers down the spine…Maybe this is the reason i am more inclined towards buying a pulsar 180
DWI on November 15, 2009 at 10:34 pm
My apache 160 RTR completed 1yr last month , had no problems with it till date.
It has provided an average of 60KML (consistently for last 8-10 months) , even in crowded city area of PUNE
Handling is far better then any Pulsar
The bike may vibrate at higher speed , but is still comfortable
I hv driven apache on an Average 80km/hr+ along 120Km on a highway without any pains
Another good bike is Yamaha-FZ16
anshuman sharma on November 17, 2009 at 11:33 am
Guys Move on from pulsars……
try rtr
the best byke in 150 to 180 segment
the power, pickup, pettal disk and if you notice the digital meter is also very sexy
and pulsar digi meters all are same and cheep in built….

RTR stands for Racing Throttle Response
Apache delivers it all
The stunning looks of apache is also a plus…
I will go with APACHE !!!!

Post reading the above review and comments, I decided to go on a ride on my friend’s Apache RTR 180. The bike is indeed a powerful beast and handling the clostrophobic city traffic is a cakewalk. The acceleration of the bike is splendid and vibrations at higher speeds are definitely present but manageable. The Apache 180 can even out-do a Karizma R in city conditions. I strongly recommend the Apache 180, even for guys who are 6 feet and above. Pulsar 180 is a bit sluggish as compared to this machine.
Siddu on December 11, 2009 at 10:23 am

Siddu on December 20, 2009 at 11:33 am
Ya every thing is gud but i doubt abt its refinement….yesterday i took a test drive of apache 180,pick up and power is amazing…but if it stand beside a pulsar, pulsar seems dominating in its looks.seems lyk a tiger standing beside the cat…newez now decided to go for pulsar…

hey i own rtr 180, its 4 months old n its freakin’ cool.. i rode p220 n believe me rtr is much butter than tht!! i had a drag with d same 220 n 0-100 of rtr is quicker than a p220, though p220 eventually overtook mine but i was perplexed at rtr’s performance.. its evergreen black colour makes it stand out in crowd n d way it zoooomes after 6000rpm is fabulous!! pulsar is long lost! rtr rocks n i’m 6ft too n slim, n rtr is taller wider n lengthier n 6ft does not look odd at all.. p220 needs to pull up its socks coz rtr is a deadly racing machine! rtr 180 rocks!!

Im planning to buy a RTR 160 FI or RTR 180 before Jan.2010. It would be great if you answer me the below questions.
Is the RTR 180 vibrating at lower speeds (60-80kmph). Bcause thats wat i found searching the web about the bike. And is the vibrations a bit of a bother?.
Also can you tell what mileage are u getting from ur RTR 180?
Which will u suggest in buying? RTR 160 Fi or RTR 180 ???
Thanks in advance
rohit on January 12, 2010 at 8:49 pm
@dinesh
fi vibrates more than 180.. vibratin is not a problem acually.. its irritating for ppl lookin for a smooth ride.. n some fi’s give problem too.. the fuel injection is troublesome.. my rtr give around 44 in city..
i’ll suggest 180 coz if u just give up d ‘fi’ tag, u’ll get higher displacement n power.. all d best!

i m planing to guy a bike i have an option of pulsar 180 or apache 180 . I like both the bikes but i m confused which one should i go .
PulsarRulz on February 12, 2010 at 9:21 am
I was reading the comments from all of u guys.. Many people think that pulsar 180 returns 16 ps. However, the new Pulsar 180 ug 4 returns 17.3 ps.. I have read at many locations over the internet where it has the top speed of 127 kmph although it is heavier than the apache. So.. I think going for the pulsar will be the best choice for everyone depending upon your likings and dislikings.. I dont know why many people think that pulsar looks same from all these years and always say something against this point. Compare the first pulsars and that of today if got eyes can look at the all over refined and fully loaded bike not only from looks but from technical stuff as well.. Bajaj has always tried to improve the pulsars in all these years according to those people who always think that ever changing pieces of art are because of problems and not because of refinement they are undertaking.

This goes for all the guys who are confused between a Pulsar 180cc and Apache 180rtr, I used to be confused a few weaks ago, But then I decided to go with female votes to decide one of these two and to my surprise 90 percent voted Apache 180cc and the reason meing it look far more macho than pulsar because pulsar being on road for much time and has become very common, Although it was not the advice I took literally I decided to test drive both of them and decided to interview my mechanic who take care of my Bullet, and also works with Bajaj, There is a Price difference in both of about 4000 in Delhi, However the material Apache has is much more worth than that, Bajaj Showrooms here provide only 2 services but TVS provides 5 services Bajaj does not provided a rear disc braking Apache gives Petal disc on rear as well, The power and speed no dobt is fantastic with Apache I have had Pulsar 150 cc DTSI and a Bullet, but I prefer speed now as busy schedule, There is One of the major issues I have in mind regarding Pulsar and TVS , its with the starting system, Pulsar Does not have a Kick start, Apache have both self and Kick, removing the kick from a Bike in an Indian road was a very bold Step taken by bajaj However I am Not sure how reliable it is, because its a Nightmare to go on a date with your GF sitting at the back and your self would”nt respond, You simply cannot ask her to push the bike so that You can Try releasing the clutch.. or in any Extreme situation, I have kept my bike for more than 5 years now, and I am Not a Person to by a new Bike to sell it again in next two years to buy a new one again, My suggestion to all you guys would be to decide what you want, If its for a long time you want to keep the bike with you Buy an Apache if its not more than 2 years buy a Pulsar. because after 2 years you may think merely 4 thousand might have got you better substance if you might have bought an Apache.

Heys guys,i’ve made up my mind,im going to buy Matt Black Apache 180,But should i wait for Apache with ABS or should i buy it right away? And Can any one please tell me the approx on road price of Apache 180.
vishal on April 12, 2010 at 8:36 pm
hii guys….
let me tell you all that in comprasion between pulsar 180 and apache 180 rtr….
1:-look..all guys..even apache rider knows..about stunning bold look of pulsar 180..so i dont need to tell
2:-performance..i am glad to tell u that new pulsar 180 retrieve 17.2 bhp power and apache 17 bhp…so more power.in pulsar
3:-control:..in pulsar u got more wider rear and front tubeless tyres(mrf) which means…more control on high speed..and furious pick up.
whereas in apache tyres are slim so at high speed..u probably skid…
and let me clear the confusion that all superstation that at corner apache is great so this is partially true..go for pulsar u will feel the marvellous controll at corners…i tilted it at an angel nearly 30 degree..very close to road with no heartblow beat…
4:-..mileage..these are not economy bikes so still…pulsar gives a mileage of 40-45 kmpl wheareas apache 180 gives 38-42 kmpl….
so i will suggest u all…go for bajaj pulsar 180….
i own both apache and pulsar 180……and this r the results..i am with ..
.hats off to bajaj pulsar series….
thxxxxxxx a lot…..
Reeto on April 13, 2010 at 10:04 am
Hi. To be very honest, Bajaj’s Pulsar series is nothing more than a farce. Build quality, paint job, refinement is null and void on the Pulsar 180. TVS has always been renowned both in India and abroad for its performance oriented machines. The Apache RTR 180 is at par with the Yamaha R15 with regards to handling/negotiating corners. Pulsars suck big time when it comes to handling. Apache is also a better-balanced bike as compared to the Pulsar. I have personally ridden on both machines. The RTR 180 is a breeze on highways and ghats. So my vote undoubtedly goes to TVS Apache RTR 180.
vishal on April 14, 2010 at 7:12 am
hi
handling is superb in pulsar 180….dont go for that pulsar has got the bas handling,,,,,,,the best bike in 180 segment….pulsar and only pulsar …
and and ……on every mouth you all will find pulsar…
in fact let me tell u….if u own a pulsar 150..and in next to you there is apache ..then all will say..woooooo!!!!!!
pulsar..macho..so even 150 compete with apache 160..
and you will not believe i beated apache with pulsar 150 in city….pick up same as apache 160..so again hatsss offf to bajaj series….
Japn on April 14, 2010 at 11:55 pm
Hi all
In this segment nothing else matter but the need for speed and looks nobody can deny looks of pulsar period…and you r also gettin fuel economy that is good enough in 0′ing ur options…i would hav opted fr karizma it was fuel efficient …ur choice ur money iam proud owner of P-180.
vishal on April 15, 2010 at 1:13 am
guys
apache skid at 60-70 km/hr..what i can say a major defect…could let to u misery….
so again pulsar more power more pickup best grip(at 100+)it does not vibrat at all thats my gurantee…and controlling is just like buttering the bike….
santhosh on April 16, 2010 at 10:35 am

rikish143 on April 28, 2010 at 10:50 am
Hi guys here is a genuine advice.. If u want only speed then buy rtr apache 180.. But if u want a gud milage as well as speed then go for pulsar 180.. both the bikes are cool and stylish.. both bikes has cool performance.. The choice is yours guys.. pick the one which suits u..

Better mileage….40-45 average…of city n highway
better finishing tan p180….damn sure in itz parts
proper weight and power ratio…
easY handing tan ny pulsar.as pulsars handling is heavy…
ma rtr 180 goes frm 0-60 witin 3.5 secs as rtr has 0-60 speed time tracker nor evn 220 hav it…
n the roar of this beast wOw awesome….
as RTR stands for Racing Throttle Response…
n ya itz sure u wil get response……wen u jst race teh throttle……….

ALL THAT Ur gonna READ ARE FROM ME>> I OWN A P220 & RTR 160
i love both the bikes this is just to clarify some things
1. all the people saying pulsar roks in handling have not ridden the RTR beleve me RTR is a true traffic cutter!!!
nothing comes close xcept the R15 the SHEER JOY of riding this bike(RTR)u simply wont get in others
2. the person who has written this comparison for this website himself has sed RTR is a better performer than p180 so have endless other magzines(thats for the all the einstines&newtons over here)
3. just because some ppl have had a bad experience with TVS service dosnt make APACHE a bad bike
4.for ppl saying apache looks small keep a pulsar and the RTR side by side very close take a measuring tape then tell the difference between height width length ull find its just because of the tyre difference&the pulsar rear plastic tail
2ndly racer bikes are suppozd to be short/light its simple physics see what YAMAHA has accomplished with R15
5.the guy who sed to go for a P200
dude which world are u living in?!? bajaj doznt make the P200 anymore
6.sum1 sed he beat a RTR160 with his p150 dude u wer either dreaming or the 160 NOOB didnt know how to ride his bike
7.one thing ill agree to is TVS servecing is not good but it is improving
another is that the TVS tyres SUK fit zappers it will improve breaking by 200% +cornering which is already better than pulsars
8.the bikes vibrations are not so bad as ppl tel them to be
all the guys who have booked the RTR/or gonna do so relax vibrations reduce to nothing in a year or 2 provided u look after ur bike like ur girl some oils are xtremly helpful in reducing vibrations
9. TVS really knows what its doing believe me, its the only company INDIAN HOME GROWN with its own RACING DIVISION!!!!!
let me see&hear BAJAJ say that!!!!!!!!!
TVS bikes have out done every bajaj bike in that respective class…
TVS is learning from its racetracks guys
its not long before they outclass BAJAJ…
speaking of refinement vibrations is a small issue(which they are improving with every release
10.there are a lot of people simply blindingly misinforming other ppl about RTR and TVS
RTR is an AWSUM bike TVS ROKS
it needs some work on its after-sales
11.ALL THAT U HAVE READ ABOVE ARE FROM ME>> I OWN A P220 & RTR160 i love both the bikes

my personal xperincE bOut pulsar n apache,
i hav 10 yearz of byking xperince,
firstlY i wud lyk 2 say sRy 4 mah bad ENGLISH,
Ok… guyz i hav 3 bykZ now pulsar 150dts-i(2005){sold} den i gOt den i got apache 160 in (2008) den pulsar 180 dts-i UG4 without kick start(2009) n nOw dayz i hav PULSAR 220dts-i S(2010)may-21-2010 n mah brOda hav RTR 180(2010)v both purchase bykz on same day, itz mah 3rd pulsar juz coz i m a big fan bout itz quality, lookz n performance….!!
ok now com in pOint of comparing both d bykZ p180(2009)n RTR 180(2009)=
APACHE 180= great handling,Osum pick up,gud breaking(vid rear disk){if u apply both d diskZ 2gethrt}
Drawbackz=it hav rear disk bt slimmer rear wheel if u apply rear brck in speed more den 100 u’l got damage ur byk coz of bad gripz on road ovr rear disk brk,nt gud mileage, mch xpensive den p180 n TVS hav less xperionZ(dat i think),xpensive auto partz if u get damage, poor service
PULSAR 180= gud handling, gud pickup(less as compare 2 apache) graet breaking(fatter rear wheel givZ lotz of support in bracking),great mileage 40-49(as compare 2 RTR bt dependz on ur driving),cheaper auto partz, great service
DRAWBCKZ=doez nt hav kick start option,bt no problem it hav autochoke facility, even in cold u cn easily start ur byk vid self, lack of rear disk brck,nt gud pickup as compare to RTR..
i m vry rude n rough driver,i m 4m jinX group in indore, v r performing lotz of stunt vid our bykz-racking,burnout,wheelyz,stoopiez etc.
for stunt riderz i perferz apache u cn do stopie easily,360, n wheely
n dOz who wan everything in average i perfer pulsar=gud mileage, macho looks, n u cn do al dat stunts (bt more easy vid apache)
i personally suggest pulsar 4 u all coz BAJAJ hav lotz of xperience den TVS,itz quality, mileage, killing lookz n performance, i jus hate apache tail light n front show oveall byk z gud bt pulsar z BAAP of all other bykz n yeah plz dun go vid Fz16 n yamaha family dey al r phuking shi-t,dey hav only great show vid fiber body(BAKWASS)
PLZ IF U R SPENDING MONEY IN BYK CHOOSE D 1 VIC HAV EVERYTHING DUN GO VID ONLY LOOKZ N PICK UPZ

when it comes to pulsars only a 220 is worth owning
rest r all cattle herd…
even the dhobi,doodh wala,rickshaw wala,newspaper walla has a pulsar
its ther in evey nook&corner of this earth!!!
@abhay
u have a strong bias towards pulsars its obvious ull suggest it
at 100 breaking of RTR is ROCK SOLID!!!
the TVS tyre is a problem like i sed change it to ZAPPER or PERILLI
then comment about breaking
yes the servicing is poor
pulsar has been tuned to give more mileage to appeal to the masses
RTR is an out & out racer…when ur a racer mileage is none of ur consern “u dont go to buy a 1000cc R1 & ask the showroom guy about the mileage!!!!!!”
TVS has more experience than bajaj 4 ur kind information
not in marketing but in making a good engine
when BAJAJ was making autorickshaws TVS was taking part in national RACES!!!!!!
but u have to give BAJAJ credit for their achivment with pulsar
the build quality of RTR is the same as PULSAR
u have hardly had an RTR just for a year…
i dont think u have experienced the full pros&cons of that bike…
y did ur brother get RTR then??
(no offence)
ur comments are clearly biased
ur a fanboy dude
and dont disrespect YAMAHA
)
its the other way round YAMAHA is the BAAP of biking
they have achieved what BAJAJ will take another 100years to do so (without help from KAWASAKI
like i sed…racer bikes dont have unnecessary weight dats y the fiber body
FZ16 is a fine blend of everything…performance is a bit dissapointing
R15 is the pinnacle of technology its in the same league as the p220…… a 150cc engine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
get my point broda

hey sup
u know u shudnt have done that to ur brothers bike
u got it on 21may its new
u sed u have 10years of experience im not denying that me2have around the same experience
BUT u shud have followd the RUN-IN 500kms the manual sez but its cutting it too close u can speed after 500kms but what u did was immature…
for a new bike that kind of run is not a good idea
RTR takes a lil more time to settle than pulsars u wud have known if u experienced the bike for more than a year
its a bit different
first2months u have to take very good care of the engine if u do that the bike is set for life…
RTR ages like fine wine (provided u dont do stuff like that)
mine is 3years old its as good as new!!!!
im taking the same kind of care for my p220 dtsi
white smoke!!!
sumthing has seriously gon wrong with ur brothers bike
3years with RTR160 i have never faced a problem like that…
get it checked ASAP!! the oil is not right i think u shud change it
i dont think ur aware of “speedo errors” every bike has them
true top speeds of R15&p220 is around 135&137 respectively
p180 cannot touch a true speed of 132 its tru speed is sumwhere around same as that of RTR180
they measure these TRUE speeds by V-BOX super accurate sattelite GPS systems used in fighter planes by the military they even use it in F1 cars so thers no arguing that..
if ur refering to speedo speeds ppl have reached 135 on RTR 160Fi 145 on R15 and p220 ther r endless videos but these r speedo errors
“n 1 more thing R15 is nt d same leage as d p-220,mah frnd hav R15 only 135km/h(bt aftr 110 u hate diz byk coz of tz gr8 vivration n slim tyr) n p-220 148km/h(i tried both)”
there are many ppl around that have taken the R15 above 145 speedo speed u cudnt is a difrent story
if a 150cc can do that it is undoubtedly in the same league as p220 &its commendable!!!!
thers this thing about R15 its not as simple as twist the throttle&blast ur was to glory as in a p220… u need to manage the gearing right to get it to speeds excess of 145
which it does…u need to practice on an R15, for that just a single ride doznt cut it…
bike advice themselves have got these true speeds…
so have many many other good magzines & they do what they do best thats y they exist…
and yes fz series doznt stand a chance with RTR160 p180 RTR180
its not a racer i was talkin bout R15
ther r sum limitations with RTR not cuming with good tyres but its nothing u cant change
doing a burnout is not a way to test a tyre
these r the bikes ive owned in the past
rx100
rx135
p150 earliest
RTR 160
p220 dtsi RTR & p220 i presently have rest sold
& my younger brother p180ug3 & R15
presently in the stable are p220,RTR160,p180&r15
2of my brothers 2 of mine
ive ridden the new p180 the oldr one feels faster!!
so i think i have experience to speak about 2009 p180 even though i dont own it…
ydn on June 12, 2010 at 12:06 am
Apache r just nothing for all these apache makes so much of noise than other 180cc bike. I think that tvs hav forgotten 2 change the silensor, Radiator Hahahaha…… I just want 2 give u advice that Guys who prefer Apache should change their mind coz pulsar 180 is much better than apache. It hac better looks, pickup, throttle response, braking system too. Rear drum brakes of pulsar 180 works much better than apache’s Rear disk brakes. Shame on Apache!!!!!!!
ToRqUe on June 12, 2010 at 11:13 am
@ydn
ur the most naive and misinformed person ive ever cum aross
1st of all apache doznt have a radiator!!!!
2ndly u have never ever ridden a RTR180 i can tell just by reading ur comment
3rd
It hac better looks- maybe, its totally subjective view
pickup- in ur deams! the older p180 was better in pickup
throttle response- yeah right, im not sayin its bad but apachez definately better than p180
braking system too- u really havent ridden one have u
ill agree to this the rear disk is as good as a drum break!!
but it doz its job mighty well
i suggest u gather more information about bikes& how they work b4 makin a fool of urself by telling apache has a radiator!!!
shame on u dude!!
this is what i ment any1 comes here without half the information about RTR or how their own bike works and start telling bogus nonsense
atleast as a biker i respect what abhay has to say..
nirav6369 on June 13, 2010 at 3:46 am
to torque…..
yes u r right,bajaj doesnot manufactures P200 anymore.But it used 2(during which i got 1).I have fitted K&N filter & re-jetted the carburettor,also fitted unicorns monosuspension.i got drop of mileage by 4kms…
but now none of the RTR’s can compete my pulsar in terms of pickup & acceleration.
I hav also driven rtr 160 and 1 thing that i personally think is that pulsars are heavier, which makes me feel that u can bend ur bike during turns without fear of slipping.
secondly, pulsars have the shortest distance of braking(u can check in overdrive),rtr does have good brakes but the comparatively thinner tyres tends to slip easily.
I personally dont have any grudges against rtr,but wot i want to clarify is that both bikes hav their own pros & cons.U decide which u want to buy according to ur requirement…
ToRqUe on June 13, 2010 at 10:19 am
@nirav6369
yep tvs tyres really suk!!!
the slipping is ther coz of the poor tyre quality&grip not cos thyr thinner(even the thin R15 tyres r better)…they r vry gud for a couple of months after that u HAVE to change them
the petal disk of RTR is the best on any indian2wheeler its just coz of the tyres its a real let down!!
i got mine changed to PERILLI tubeless i felt a great increase in cornering capacity…
ya pulsars being heavy can stick to corners at hi speeds for them its their weight that supports them
for RTR its the dynamics of the bike that do the same thing
both work differently to do the same thing
but when it comes to flickability switching corners rapidly or traffic cutting pulsar feels clumsy this is where RTR shines…
… cool
within the city or for cornering i use my RTR its pure fun!
for touring its p220..
ive got k&n & upjet on my A160 too dude
&no offence about the p200 comment
@all RTR owners change ur rear tyre ull feel a significant improvement

Rode my friend’s RTR 180 from South Mumbai to Belapur (Navi Mumbai). I am quite amazed with the bike’s acceleration. Even with 2 heavy people on it (my friend weigh 80kgs n I stand at 86kgs), the engine shows no dearth of grunt. Pick-up is very good n much better than the Pulsar 180. The RTR also is really quick to the 100 kmph mark than the P180. I managed a 115 kmph on the speedo with enough throttle left for another 10 kmph on the Vashi bridge. Handling is an aspect where I feel the RTR scores above the R15. P180 can’t even be compared to the RTR 180 in terms of handling. The RTR is ever-eager to be flicked into a corner. It also handles mid-corner bumps well. My opinion – RTR 180 wins hands down against the Pulsar 180.
