Just like last time, the Auto Expo saw Yamaha add another scooter to their expanding line-up, the Cygnus Ray ZR. Powered by the same 113 cc mill found in its existing scooter line-up, the Cygnus Ray ZR will try to build on the success of the retro styled Fascino which has played a pivotal role in increasing their sales volume in the segment.
Targeted towards urban boys, as Yamaha puts it, the Cygnus Ray ZR sports a love it or hate it look with the head lamp staying on the lower part of the front apron and indicators placed near it like Honda Dio. The instrumentation console is fresh and looks smart. The company has also added storage space near the ignition key and the choke lever which can come handy for keeping the wallet and loose change.
The under seat storage has been claimed to be 21 litres, the same as that of its other scooters. The Ray ZR weighs 103 kilos (the same as that of the Fascino) and Yamaha is calling it to be developed around the ‘next generation real man’s scooter’ and will be offering a front disc brake as an option. A regular all-drum version will also be made available.
While the power output has not been specified, we expect it to be at the same as that of the rest of the line-up. The Blue Core engine in other models is rated to produce 7.1 PS of power and 8.1 Nm of torque. The fuel efficiency too has been claimed to be among the best in class, which we expect to be pegged at the same 66 kmpl. Launch is expected sometime later this year.
