After numerous sightings and some almost confirmed bits, Yamaha has finally launched their new MT25 which is the naked version of R25 Sportsbike. It sits between the smallest MT125 and MT-07 in the new MT series of streetfighter motorcycles which also has the MT-09 as the current flagship.
MT-25 carries over all major bits from its 250cc faired sibling. In terms of changes, apart from that bikini fairing, MT25 gets a higher handlebar and a relatively upright seating posture.
Yamaha MT25 Engine
The MT25 comes with the same 249cc parallel twin cylinder 8 valve liquid cooled engine which churns out 36 PS of impressive power and 22.6 Nm of maximum torque which is mated to a six speed gearbox.
Yamaha MT25 Color Options
Yamaha is offering MT25 in three of the following color options

Yamaha MT25 Indonesian Price
Yamaha has priced the MT25 at 46 million Indonesian Rupiah which equates to about 2.2 Lakhs in INR. Just to give you a reference, R25, when launched in Indonesia last year had a price tag of 53 Million IDR which equates to about 2.55 Lakhs in INR today.
Will it Come to India?
Indonesia has got both – R25 and MT25 and Yamaha India is still pondering over which one to launch in India, despite a heavy demand already! The good news is that Yamaha has announced that it will export the made in Indonesia MT25 to many markets of the world, and let us hope we are one of them!
An ideal case for us would be – R3 against the faired quarter liter sportsbikes and MT25 against the remaining ones – exactly the way Kawasaki operates with their Ninja 300 and Z250! Since they will be importing both these motorcycles as CKDs, we do not think this would be an issue!
Yamaha India has started testing the R3/R25 in India and a showroom ready R3 was spotted just a couple of days back by our avid reader (check spyshot and more details here).
