Upcoming Hero-Harley will Rival Royal Enfield – Hero Hints Again

Upcoming Hero-Harley motorcycle launch timelines are not known yet but the mid-sizer is under works and will play in the retro space…

Hero Motocorp is developing a retro-styled bike under its collaboration with Harley Davidson in the premium segment. Both the Indian and the US automakers joined hands last year after the latter called it quits in the Indian market.

After the US biking brand’s exit from India, Hero MotoCorp is currently the sole distributor of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, spare parts, and merchandise.

In an interview recently, Hero MotoCorp CFO Niranjan Gupta remarks that they are the sales distribution partner for Harley in India. They are at an advantage as they have 14 dealerships and 30 touchpoints.

He further said that there are not many retro bikes in the premium segment. So, they want to capture that market with the release of the retro bike. This clears that the upcoming Hero-Harley bike will be in this niche.

It also indicates that Hero has Royal Enfield’s massive market share in sights. This is the second time Niranjan has revealed the company’s intentions. Few months ago, he almost confirmed that the upcoming models will be pitted in the segment where the leader has a 90 percent market share (and that is Royal Enfield).

It must also be noted that the upcoming platform will spawn motorcycles that will be sold under both – Hero and Harley Davidson’s monikers.

Hero MotoCorp has successfully begun and managed bookings of 13 models of premium Harley-Davidson bikes. The prices of these bikes range between INR 10 lac and go all the way up to INR 35 Lac.

Already 100 bikes from Harley have been pre-booked as of now. Recently, the booking for Harley-Davidson Sportster S was also opened.
