The patent images of the Suzuki V-Strom 160 were leaked on the internet four years back and after a long wait, it is finally here!
Suzuki V-Strom 160 has finally seen the light of day and the entry-level adventure motorcycle looks impeccable at first glance. It was almost four years back in Sep 2020 when the patent images of the motorcycle were leaked online. The Japanese brand presently retails two V-Strom models in India namely V-Strom 250 SX and V-Strom 800 DE.
Going by the images, the V-Strom 160 seems to have taken styling inspiration from the V-Strom 1050, which is a big DR motorcycle in the brand’s global portfolio. It flaunts a vertical LED headlamp with a big beak upfront. In addition, there is a tall adjustable windscreen above the headlamp unit. The handlebar is high mounted but it misses out on the integrated handguards which were visible in the leaked patent images.
The side profile features the muscular fuel tank which seamlessly integrates into the wide single-piece seat. The bike rides on black-coloured multi-spoke alloy wheels as standard. The V-Strom 160 also comes with a pillion grab handle and blacked-out exhaust pipe. At the rear, it boasts of an H-shaped LED tail-lamp cluster and turn indicators.
Though it is not clear from the images we expect a fully digital instrument cluster in the motorcycle. Suzuki V-Strom 160 gets stopping power from a disc brake at the rear which is mounted on the wheel-spoke in a similar pattern as the Honda CB 300R. It is likely to be equipped with a single-channel ABS as standard feature. The suspension duties are carried out by telescopic forks at front and mono-shock unit at rear, which might get a pre-load adjustment option.
As far as engine is concerned, it is powered by a 162cc unit which is sourced from the China-spec Haojue DR160S. The single-cylinder engine develops top power of 15 bhp at 8,000 rpm and peak torque of 14 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The V-Strom 160 is believed to have the same power output and torque performance. The exact gearbox details are not in public domain yet.
It is still unclear whether Suzuki will launch the V-Strom 160 in any other market apart from China. Hence, the chances of it hitting the Indian roads are quite low. Suzuki already retails the Gixxer 155 in the Indian market. However, a few reports claim that Suzuki might produce an all-new 250cc adventure motorcycle using the V-Strom 160 frame and equip it with Gixxer 250’s engine.
