September 2024 2-wheeler sales data does not present a very rosy picture for Hero MotoCorp. With a big drop, the maker has ceded the first spot to arch-rival Honda…
Even ardent fans of Hero MotoCorp will have to agree that the interest in the Delhi based maker’s products is fading. And gradually, what was deemed to happen, is happening!
In the September 2024 retail sales data that has been shared by FADA, Hero MotoCorp has registered total numbers of 2.70 Lakh units – which is a big drop of over 80,000 units when compared with last year’s September’s numbers. This has resulted in a sharp decline in market share of the company to about 22.5 percent – down from almost 27 percent last September.

Not only has Honda beaten the largest maker by a fairly big margin, Hero MotoCorp was not a big distance away from TVS Motor – the third ranker in the Indian 2-wheeler market. Here are the numbers…
September 2024 2-Wheeler Sales
Maker | Sep 2024 Sales |
Honda | 3,33,927 units |
Hero MotoCorp | 2,71,390 units |
TVS Motor | 2,21,257 units |
Though Honda also suffered a downfall in its September 2024 numbers, it was of much lesser magnitude than Hero. It was ahead of the Splendor maker by a significant 62,537 units.

More interestingly, the difference between Hero and TVS last September was almost 1.23 Lakh units, which shrunk to just 50,000 units this September.
This is a definite cause of concern for Hero as these are retail numbers – which means the actual sales that have happened in the said months – and not factory dispatches which can be manipulated by the maker based on its perceived demand. With a big portion of festive season still ahead, Hero would be hoping for a turnaround, but one thing appears certain – this would be the year of transition – when arch-rival Honda would be able to fulfill its longtime dream of dethroning Hero for the top slot.
