Rumour: Has Kawasaki Slashed Rs 55000 Off Z800…?

Z800 is India’s most affordable 4 cylinder motorcycle and was launched in January 2014 at starting prices of Rs 8.05 Lakhs in Delhi and Rs 7.90 Lakhs in Pune, both ex-showroom.

Its closest competition here is the controversial Street Triple which has suddenly become a 79/85 PS machine from the earlier 105PS (read mis-communication), against the 111hp Z800. And, when it was least expected, a report at Bikewale.com has created quite a flutter! They claim that Kawasaki has slashed Rs 55,000 from the prices of Z800 in India owing to the price reduction in Thailand, the country where this motorcycle is imported from (as a CBU).

Bikewale claims that that, after this price cut, Z800 will cost Rs 7.35 Lakhs ex-showroom in Pune and this price cut will be effective till March 2015.

Following this report, we connected with Kawasaki’s Delhi and Pune dealerships, however, both of them did not have any clue about this and said, they have not received any update regarding this from the company as of now. The latest prices they gave us were:

  • Rs 8.05 Lakhs ex-showroom Delhi
  • Rs 8.94 Lakhs on-road Delhi
  • Rs 7.89 Lakhs ex-showroom Pune

So, we will term this report as a rumour at this point but if it goes true, it will be a big blow to the Street Triple and a welcome news for all the biking enthusiasts, specially the ones who were in the queue for this maniac street racer! This will also be the only good news we have heard after the latest increase on motorcycle prices owing to the hike in excise duties by the Indian government w.e.f. 01 January 2015.
