RUMOUR: Report Claims 31PS HX250R to be Priced Under 1.35 Lakhs

Hero shocked everyone last year when they showcased their first ever quarter litre motorcycle HX 250R. And if the prospects of its launch are less intimidating, there is an interesting rumour which will ensure you loose your night’s sleep!

Bikewale.com claims that the HX 250R will carry a price tag lower than the Duke 200. The Austrian naked 200 carries a price tag of Rs 1.38 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) while Hero’s present flagship Karizma ZMR carries a price tag of a little more than a lakh rupees.

Going by the report, Hero has a bracket between Rs 1.1 to 1.35 Lakhs to place their HX 250R. And just as a comparison, current cheapest 250cc Honda CBR250R starts at an ex-showroom Delhi price tag of Rs 1.58 Lakhs for the non-ABS variant.

According to the official specs shared by Hero, the 249 cc fuel injected motor of the HX250R claims a maximum power output of 31 PS and a 0-60 kmph performance figures of less than 3 seconds. It shall have two power modes and an optional ABS. The light weight 139 kg body will ensure a great power to weight ratio. Also, it will be the first Indian made bike to feature an under-seat exhaust. The 17 inch wheels are shod with high performance Pirelli Sport Demons.

Being the company’s first venture into the quarter litre segment, that too with an indigenously developed engine with inputs from Eric Buell Racing, will Hero use a shocking price tag to get the initial thrust?

We are not really sure and suggest you to take this claim as a rumor for now. But if this happens (we pray!), we are sure to bid the CBR250R good bye along with any other upgrade/downgrade/new 250-300cc motorcycle Honda may be planning for India.
