Hero MotoCorp, the country’s largest selling two-wheeler manufacturer, wants a new ‘Dawn’ to their line-up. Sorry guys, this Dawn is not about the HX 250R which has the potential of bringing a major change to the segment, but of a small entry level motorcycle which will be powered by a 125 cc mill.
Gaadiwaadi.com has shared spy pics of this bare bones commuter which, through the console, is revealed to be the new Dawn 125. This 125 cc Dawn gets a circular head lamp with a no frills, plain jane look. It is expected to carry the existing horizontal 124.7 cc mill from the Super Splendor which produces already meagre 9.12 PS of maximum power at 7,000 rpm and 10.35 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. Expect Hero to quote some astronomically high fuel efficiency figures for this one…
The front mud guard appears to be metal with black plastic towards the end to prevent water spillage. The engine is all black like the Super Splendor and Glamour but the wheels here are spokes. The bare basic design philosophy extends to a rather boring tail lamp and side indicators. The twin pod instrumentation cluster too is a very basic unit with a speedometer, fuel guage and tell-tale lights.
The broad seat (expected to be real comfy), the toe-heal gear lever, and steel rails for carrying luggage all point at the fact that this motorcycle is being developed with the rural market in mind. The twin footrests are intentionally being provided so that they can also act as luggage carriers! Dawn 125 may also be targeted for markets like Africa and others.
