As has been in the news, Bajaj has revealed their new Platina ES which gets a host of mechanical changes but the biggest surprise is its fuel efficiency claims!
Bajaj is promoting the new Platina ES as ‘World’s Mileage Champion’ as it returns a whooping 96.9kmpl of fuel efficiency which has never been heard before on any Indian motorcycle ever! And this is not company’s internal test results but official ARAI tested figures, under test conditions!
This has been made possible by the new 102cc single cylinder engine which gets Bajaj’s DTSi technology and ExhausTEC! This is the same new-age engine which is found on the Discover 100M. Despite the insane fuel efficiency figures, the new Platina 100ES churns out fairly respectable 8.2 PS of power at 7500 rpm and 8.7 Nm of torque at 5000 rpm.
In comparison the same engine on Discover 100M produces 9.3 PS and 9.02 Nm of torque and is rated at fuel efficiency figures of 84kmpl.
Apart from the new engine, another feature addition is the introduction of Electric start (in conjunction with kick starter).
Designwise, not much has changed from the existing Platina, which continues to be on sale. We see new side panels, brighter graphics, new exhaust and minor design changes to the headlamp.
The motorcycle has started reaching dealerships and it appears it has also gone on sale at Ex-showroom Delhi prices of Rs 44,507. We also believe that Bajaj will discontinue the top variant of older Platina which is pretty close in terms of prices.
A master-stroke by Bajaj then…?
