Yamaha has launched version 2.0 of their commuter 150cc SZ-RR which gets Blue core technology, new engine and a promised increase in fuel efficiency.

The previous generation of the SZ-RR had a 153cc carburetted engine, shared with the old FZ, churning out 12.1 PS of power at 7500 rpm and 12.8 Nm of torque at 4500 rpm. The new SZ-RR Version 2.0 borrows the smaller 149cc air-cooled, SOHC engine from the new FZ v2 but it continues to be carburetted.

The engine though, is a slightly detuned version, and produces 12.1 PS of power at 7500 rpm and 12.8 Nm of torque at 6000 rpm. The difference from the older version is that the torque peaks 1500rpm later at 6000 rpm. The bike continues to weigh the same 134 kg and has the same 14 L fuel tank. The seat height however gets reduced by 2 mm.

The new engine comes with Yamaha’s new Blue Core technology and major focus has been on increasing the fuel efficiency of the bike and Yamaha claims an 11 percent increment over the 2013 edition of the SZ-RR. The new SZ-RR also gets newly designed tubeless tyres, redesigned instrument panel and a wee bit of other changes.

SZ-RR Version 2 Color Options

The new SZ-RR is available in three color options:

  • Red Dash
  • Ivory White
  • Green Arrow

New SZ-RR v2 Price

Yamaha has priced the new version 2 SZ-RR at..

  • SZ-RR v2.0 Delhi: Rs 65,300
  • SZ-RR V2.0 Chennai: Rs 66,461

*both prices ex-showroom

This means the prices have gone up by about Rs 3000 (2013 SZ-RR was priced at Rs 62,500 ex-Delhi) and frankly speaking, we do not see a lot of change for the price you pay!

We believe this new engine and Blue core technology will also percolate to other SZ models in the near future. How has it changed the behavior of the motorcycle? We will get to know in our road tests whenever Yamaha gives us the test bikes…
