Will Yamaha ’03A’ ABS be Brazil’s Fazer 250? Launch Early Next Year

FZ25 ABS launch will increase the motorcycle’s prices but it will be worth the money…

Yamaha and other manufacturers have understood that extreme commuter segments – 100 and 125 cc, are not their cup of tea and they have officially announced that their focus will now be on the more profitable and exciting higher segments.

The first step in this direction was the India-made 250 cc Yamaha FZ25 which is a bare basic quarter liter but at a very aggressive price point! This, coupled with its capabilities have ensured fantastic monthly sales charts for the company. However, the biggest miss has been the exclusion of ABS (anti-lock braking system).

It gets further aggravated when we come to know that Yamaha in Brazil has launched the FZ25 (known as Fazer 250 there) with ABS as standard! It also produces slightly higher power (0.7 PS more) and more torque (0.6 Nm more) than the Indian version from the same 249.5 cc single cylinder engine. You can read more details about it here

Current FZ25

Now, a report at Economic Times claims that Yamaha is working on a new FZ25 which is codenamed as ’03A’. Don’t expect significant changes to the FZ range and this ’03A’, we believe, will be the Brazilian Fazer 250 (with the increased power) and most of its changes.

FZ25 ABS Launch

According to the report, the revamped FZ25 will be launched by or before March 2019 and this is on expected lines. This is because from April 2019, all motorcycles – new or old, over 125 cc will need to have ABS as standard. Which obviously also means that the 2019 FZ25 as well as the Fazer 25 will be offered with the safety tech. In a word with Yamaha earlier, we were told that the company does not have any plans to add ABS on either FZ25 or Fazer 25 at the moment (this year)!
