You all know that Honda has announced launch of four brand new models in India this financial year. They have confirmed that two of them will be scooters and the remaining two will be motorcycles. By ‘brand new’ we are talking about products which are not already in India or their updates.

According to Zigwheels, at the press conference, Honda said that the second motorcycle (first one will be Africa Twin) will be a “fun” mass market motorcycle. According to Oncars, they also divulged that it will sit in the 150cc to 200cc segment. This leads these media houses to believe that Honda could consider launching a faired version of Hornet 160R, the only motorcycle after Unicorn 150 that has done brisk business for them in this segment.

Such a version does not exist anywhere in the world and Honda will have to make it here in India. They can either simply snap a smart full fairing to the current body like Gixxer brothers, the chief rivals; or they can go one step ahead and design a new body like the Duke and RC siblings. Such a motorcycle can either be promoted as an all-new model and under a new brand name or they can use the Hornet brand which is doing real well for them.

Other possibilities conforming to “fun 150-200cc” in their international lineup include the CB190 range which includes CB190R, CBF190R and CBF190X but they are unlikely to come to India as building them here would mean extra costs.

The other model that is being talked about is the XRE 300 which has been reportedly spotted in India. What will Honda eventually launch is known only to the company at this point but a faired Hornet 160F (possible name) does seem to be viable.
