The new-gen Bajaj Chetak EV will come with substantial cosmetic overhaul while equipped with a hub mounted electric motor
Bajaj Auto is working on the new-gen model of the Chetak EV for the last few months. Now, we have learnt that the new-gen Chetak is likely to launch in the coming months in the Indian market. The first spy-images of the upcoming electric scooter emerged on the web just a couple of months back. The new-gen Chetak e-scooter was wearing heavy camouflage in those pics, yet it revealed some really interesting details. Bajaj Chetak EV is one of the most popular mass-market electric scooters in India as it competes with Ola S1, TVS iQube, Hero Vida V2 and Ather Rizta.
The spy images reveal that the new-gen model of the electric scooter will come with significant visual updates which includes a LED headlight with integrated ‘Chetak’ lettering. The front turn indicators have been repositioned from the front apron to the handlebar. While the side panels are fully camouflaged, we expect refreshed graphics and new paint shades on offer.
Though the silhouette has been carried over from the ongoing model, the rear profile has also gone under the hammer. In the latest version of the Chetak EV, the tail-lamp cluster will be a single unit which will have turn indicators as well as the brake light. The new registration plate holder and rear tyre hugger sum up the cosmetic updates at the rear.

The suspension duties will be performed by the same telescopic front forks and dual-shock rear absorbers. The new-gen Chetak gets a rectangle-shaped LCD instrument console with a new switchgear. The spy shots make it clear that it is a mid-spec or even lower trim of the e-scooter due to the absence of keyless ignition and TFT display. This will be confirmed in the next few months when the new-gen Chetak EV is finally unveiled by the brand.
The biggest update in the new-gen Chetak EV is the introduction of a hub-mounted electric motor instead of the swingarm-mounted motor, which we see in the current model. Just so you know, the hub motor is directly positioned on the wheel hub as it offers direct drive power. The battery pack details are not available at the moment but we expect the new-gen Chetak to be equipped with the existing 3 kWh and 3.5 kWh units.

The new-gen Chetak could also get a front disc brake as indicated by the spy pics. Bajaj is also expected to offer advanced safety features in the new-gen model of the best-selling electric scooter. Though we do not have specific details right now, stay tuned to this page as we inch closer to the official launch.
