EXCLUSIVE: Hero Pushed to Third Spot in 125cc Motorcycle Sales

We list official SIAM shared motorcycle sales 125cc for the financial year to date. Once the topper Hero has now dropped to the third spot…

Some time back Hero MotoCorp was the largest motorcycle seller in the 125cc motorcycle space – with its Super Splendor and Glamour brands. Arch rival Honda has always been under its throat with its Shine and SP125 but in the last few years it has decidedly taken a lead – a massive one that is and that pushed Hero to the second spot.

But this fiscal’s cumulative sales show an interesting turn of events. Bajaj, which was a fairly distant third ranker in this segment has jumped – and that has resulted in a major shift in rankings. Here are the sales numbers of 110-125cc motorcycles for this year so far…

Motorcycle Sales 125cc – April – October 2022

Honda 8,62,036 units
Bajaj4,17,937 units
Hero4,10,894 units
TVS97,747 units
  • Honda has jumped from the last year’s base of 6,67,945 units which means it added almost 2 Lakh units to its tally signifying a growth of 29 percent. Last year also it was almost double the size of Hero MotoCorp.
  • Bajaj, which has a new found interest in the 125cc motorcycle space has been going the whole hog with many new products in this segment. Its Pulsar 125 has worked and it added about 1.46 Lakh units to its tally registering a growth of whopping 54 percent. Last year it stood below Hero.

  • The fourth player in this list – TVS – which was not able to find traction in this segment, has also set its foot with an impressive performance from its lone offering – the Raider. The Chennai based maker rose from a paltry base of 17,610 units, signifying a massive growth of over 450 percent. It recently updated Raider’s portfolio with a new top of the line model that gets SmartXonnect Bluetooth functionality. You can check out our review of the sporty 125cc Raider below..

With only a few thousand units separating Hero and Bajaj, which way will the year end? Will Hero bounce back and reclaim its title? And more importantly, with production ramp-up of Raider, can TVS continue its stellar run…? We will do a year-end report to answer all these questions…
