The Kinetic Group took everyone by surprise when they first announced their plans to retail MV Agusta motorcycles in India. To make this happen they started this new line of dealerships called Motoroyale. Recently they inaugurated their second Motoroyale showroom, this time in Ahmedabad. So are they going to stop at just MV Agusta?
Kinetic Group is one of the most important players in the Indian two-wheeler industry of the past. Apart from the Kinetic Luna, they are best known for the Kinetic Honda scooters which got several features like electric self start, something which was a novelty back then. Things went downhill after their collaboration with Honda ended in 1998. SYM’s association did try to keep the boat float but they ultimately had to pack in 2008 when they were sold operations to Mahindra.
Since then Kinetic has just been an automotive parts supplier for companies like MV Agusta, Cagiva and Husqvarna. Ajinkya Firodia of the Kinetic Group has told Business Standard that they are trying to bring more international brands to India. In fact, at least one brand will be launched by next year. This could include motorcycles with engine displacement in the range of 300 to 500 cc, carrying a price tag between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 10 lakh.
Now almost all major manufacturers are already present in India, the list of possibilities in this list is very limited. While ruling out Chinese brand will not be right, chances of a revival for Cagiva would be a real interesting move. That said, for Cagiva to rise again is another ball game full with a path of uncertainty.
Regarding MV Agusta, the response so far has been fairly encouraging. They plan to sell around 250 units this financial year. The number at present stands at 24 units.
