Indian Bikes September 2010 Sales Figures

Hero Honda: India’s largest two wheeler company Hero Honda’s sales grew by 8.06% in the September 2010 compared to September 2009. The company sold 4,33,641 units in the September 2010 compared to 4,01,290 units in September 2009.  This is the fifth consecutive month where Hero Honda recorded sales of more than 4 lakh units.

This is the record quarter for Hero Honda as it has reported more than 1.2 million units sale. Total sales for July to September 2010 stood at 12,85,944 units up 8.68% compared to 11,83,225 units in July to September 2009. This is highest ever quarterly sales figure in the company history. The company sold 25,19,983 units during April 2010 to September 2010 up 9.46 % compared to 23,02,222 units in the same period last year.

Hero Honda Motors Senior Vice-President (Marketing and Sales) Anil Dua said that the record sale in H1 of FY11 is extremely encouraging as it has set the pace for the second half of this financial year.

The company has launched three new variants of their existing bike Splendour, Passion and Super Splendour.  The company also plans to launch a new bike in upcoming months.

Anil Dua also said that with these slew of launches, high-decibel communication and activation, they are confident of doubling their pace of growth during the festive season,”

Bajaj Auto: Bajaj auto reported sales growth of 25.57% in the month of September 2010 compared to September 2009. The company sold 3,52,769 units in September 2010 compared to 2,80,916 units in the September 2009 which is highest ever in the company history.  Motorcycle accounted 3,14,515 units in September 2010 up 26.24% compared to 2,49,133 units in September 2009. Month on month basis the company has reported 8.73% growth in September 2010 compared to August 2010.

The company has exported 1,01,960 units in September 2010  up 26.37% compared to 80,681 units in the same period last year. The company has reported motorcycle sales of 17,11,890 units during April to September 2010 up 58.07% compared to 10,82,983 units sold in the same period. The company has attributed it strong sales to Pulsar and Discover brand. The company posted highest ever sales of Pulsar around 90,000 units and discover 1,45,000 units in the September 2010. The rest of the sales shared equally between Boxer and Platina brand.  Sales of discover 100 cc crossed 1 million mark within the 14 months of its launch which looks like a record by far.  The company is aiming to sell 3,50,000 motorcycle a month from January 2011.

TVS Motors: TVS Motors recorded 31% sales growth in the month of September 2010 compared to September 2009. The company recorded 30% sales growth for two wheeler segment in the month of September 2010 on year on year basis.

The company sold 1,84,783 units of two wheeler in September 2010  compared to 1,42,553 units in September 2009.The September figure also up 10.57% month on month basis. The company sold 1,67,109 units in August 2010. Cumulative total sales in the two wheeler segment for the period of April to September 2010 stood at 9,71,039 units up 32% compared to 7,37,480 units in the last year same period.

Domestic Sales stood at 1,65,418 units in the month of September 2010 up 25% compared to 1,32,281 units in the month of September 2009.  Scooter segment grew at 44%. The company sold 43,086 units in September 2010 compared to 29,984 units in September 2009. Motorcycle segment grew at 34%. The company sold 81,318 units in September 2010 compared to 60,718 units in September 2009.

The company has recorded export of 19,365 units up massive 89% compared to 10,272 units. TVS said the major growth is coming from export and its newly launched Jive and Wego scooter

HMSI: Honda Motor Scooter and India ltd reported a growth of 43.66% in the month of September 2010 compared to September 2009. The company’s total sales stood at 1,23,831 units in September 2010 compared to 86,199 units in September 2009.

The company sold 58,508 units of motorcycle in September 2010 up 78.34% compared to September 2009. The company sold 65,323 units of scooter in September 2010 up 22.35% compared to 53,392 units in September 2009. The company sold 8,09,631 units during April 2010 to September 2010 up 36.87% compared to 5,91,520 units during the same period last month.

Yamaha India: Yamaha India has posted growth of 13.5% in the month of September 2010 compared to September 2009. The company sold 33,944 units in September 2010 compared to 29,900 units in the same period last year.  The company sold 1,72,270 units during April to September 2010 period up 27.02% compared to 1,35,621 units during the same period last year.

“We are pleased with our sales growth in September in spite of capacity constraints at vendors end and the resulting parts supply shortage. However, we are trying our best to fulfill the order backlog and meet the expectations of our esteemed customers this festival season,” expressed Yukimine Tsuji, CEO & MD, India Yamaha Motor.

“Having received an overwhelming response for FZ series, we are also launching Limited Edition FZ series bikes in Midnight Special color scheme during this festival season. We are confident that these too will be an instant hit among the biking enthusiasts”, added Tsuji.

The company has recently launched SZ, SZ-X in 150 cc segment. The company is expanding its rural sub dealer base to increase rural sales. It is also doing marketing activities such as Yamaha Safe Riding Science, Yamaha R15 One Make Race Championship and Yamaha Service Camps to increase sales.

Suzuki Motorcycles: Suzuki motorcycle September 2010 sales grew by 44.99% compared to September 2009. The company sold 22,534 units in September 2010 compared to 15,542 units in the September 2009.  Suzuki motorcycle sold 1,20,718 units during April to September 2010 up 51.15% compared to 79,868 units in the same period last year.

“We believe in bringing ‘value’ to our customers and we have proven so with our products… We will continue to keep up this growth momentum in future,” Suzuki Motorcycle India Vice President (Sales and Marketing) Atul Gupta said in a statement.

The company is getting good response for its motorcycle GS150R and scooter Access 125. It has recently launched motorcycle Slingshot in to the 125cc segment to increase their markets share into Indian two wheeler segments.

Mahindra two wheelers: Mahindra two wheelers September 2010 sales grew by massive 451% compared to September 2009.  The company sold 16,569 units in September 2010 compared to 3,006 units in September 2009. The company sold 70,830 units during April to September 2010 up 344% compared to 15,954 units in the same period during last year.

“The September performance is a validation of the consumers trust in brand Mahindra, which has helped us grow more than 84 per cent in the last six-months. We intend to consolidate our position in the two-wheeler space further with the launch of our two motorcycles — Mojo and Stallio,” M&M 2-Wheeler Sector, President, Anoop Mathur,

The figure of first half of the financial year 2010-11 clearly indicates that all the company witnessing good amount of growth while Mahindra two wheeler’s sales growth is tremendous. Notably currently the company is operating only in two wheeler segment. In the motorcycle segment its Bajaj auto which is catching very fast. Hero Honda is continuously losing market share to Bajaj auto, HMSI and TVS motors. Beside this HMSI is losing market share due to capacity constraint in scooter segment. TVS, Yamaha and Suzuki motorcycle are able to either maintain or increase their market.
