Indian Bike Sales Figure for March 2012

Hero MotoCorp India’s no. 1 two wheeler company has posted growth of 2.41% in the month of March 2012 compared to March 2011.  The company has sold 5,28,290 units of two wheeler in the month of March 2012 compared to 5,15,852 units of two wheeler sold in the month of March 2011. On the month on month basis the sale is up by 0.92%. The company has sold 5,23,465 units in the month of February 2012. Hero Motocorp has sold 62,35,205 units during April 2011 to March 2012 period up 15.41% compared to 54,02,444 units sold in the same period last year.

Bajaj Auto

Country’s second largest two wheeler maker, Bajaj Auto has reported growth of 9.64 % in the month of March 2012. The company has sold 3,00,848 units of motorcycle in the month of March 2012 compared to 2,74,392 units in the month of March 2011. The company exported 1,07,691 units in the month of March 2012 up by 54.10% compared to 69,884 units in the month of March 2011. On the month on month basis sales is down by 0.37%. The company sold 3,01,961 units in the month of February 2012. The company’s total sales stood at 3,35,515 units in the month of March 2012 up 9.03% compared to 3,07,741 units in the month of March 2011. The company has sold 38,34,405 units of motorcycle during the period of April 2011 to March 2012 up 13.21% compared to 33,87,043 units sold in the same period last year.

TVS Motors

TVS Motors has posted de growth of 3.48% in the month of March 2012. The company has sold 1,80,274 units in the month of March 2012 compared to 1,86,781 units sold in the month of March 2011. Total sales stood at 1,82,527 units in the month of March 2012 down by 4.48% compared to 1,91,081 units sold in the same period last year. On the month on basis the company has reported sales growth of 7.96%. The company has sold 1,68,988 units of two wheeler in the month of February 2012.  Cumulative two wheelers sales for the period of April 2011 to March 2012 stood at 21,58,375 units of two wheelers up by 7.55% compared to 20,06,808 units of two wheeler sold in the same period last year.

Domestic sales stood at 1,60,736 units in the month of March 2012 down by  1.22% compared to 1,62,719 units sold in the month of March 2011. Export stood at 20,690 units in the month of March 2012 down by 22.69% compared to 26,762 units sold in March 2011.  Motorcycle sales stood at 65,994 units in the month of March 2012 down by 17.14% compared to 79,642 units sold in the month of March 2011.

HMSI

India’s largest scooter manufacturing company Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Ltd reported growth of 49.68% in the month of March 2012. The company reported sales of 2,20,487 units in the month of March 2012 compared to 1,47,301 units in the March 2011. On month on month basis the company’s sales is up by 6.82%. The company sold 2,06,043 units in the month of February 2012. Motorcycle sales stood at 82,353 units in the month of March 2012 up by 24.97% compared to March 2011 where it sold 65,899 units. The company reported 69.69% jump in sales of Scooter. The company sold 1,38,134 units of scooter in the month of March 2012 compared to 81,402 units in the month of March 2011.

The company sold 21,07,228 units during the period April 2011 to March 2012 up by  27.19 % compared to 16,56,727 units sold during the same period last year. Scooter sale is up by 36.67% for the financial year 2011-12. The company sold 12,40,771 units of compared to 9,07,832 units during the year. Motorcycle sale is up by 15.70% for the financial year 2011-12. The company sold 8,66,457 units compared to 7,48,895 units.

Yamaha India

Yamaha India has reported sales growth of 13.92% in the month of March 2012 compared to March 2011 on the back of strong demand in export market. Total sales stood at 41,866 units in the month of March 2012 compared to 36,768 units last year in the same period. The company reported month on month basis sales jump of 3.03%. The company sold 40,655 units in the February 2012. Domestic sales stood at 29,819 units up by 15.64% compared to 25,786 units in the month of March 2012. Export stood at 12,067 units in the month of March 2012 up by 9.88% compared to 10,982 units in the month of March 2011. The company sold 4,84,891 units during April 2011 to March 2012 period up by 29.96% compared to 3,73,100 units during the same period last year.

Suzuki Motorcycles

Suzuki Motorcycle India reported growth of 28.50% in the month of March 2012 compared to March 2011. The company’s total sales stood at 35,158 units in the month of March 2012 compared to 27,361 units in the month of March 2011. The company reported de growth of 5.83% compared to the month of February 2012. The company sold 37,336 units in the month of February 2012. The company sold 3,40,893 units during the period of April 2011 to March 2012 up by 20.82% compared to 2,82,156 units sold during April 2010 to March 2011.

Mahindra Two wheelers

Two wheeler company Mahindra Two Wheeler reported de growth of 0.16% in the month of March 2012 compared to March 2011. Total sales stood at 12,750 units in the month of March 2012 compared to 12,771 units in the month of March 2011. Month on Month basis the company’s sales is up by 52.60%. The company sold 8,355 units last month. During the April to March 2012 period the company reported sales of 1,34,750 units down by 16.12% compared to sales of 1,63,935 units in the same period last year.

Summary

The Indian two wheeler industry’s growth finally started showing slow down in the second consecutive month after sluggish February sales.  The March 2012 month has seen sales of more than 1.32 million units up by 9.86% compared to 1.20 million units sold in March 2011. The period April 2011 to March 2012 has witnessed growth of 15.27% over the same period last year. More than 15.30 million units of two wheelers sold during the period of April 2011 to March 2012 compared to 13.28 million units in the same period last year.

Hero Moto Corp the market leader is continuously posting double digit growth with robust sales each month. It has done 6.24 million units sales in the current financial year. Bajaj Auto the second largest manufacturer of two wheelers has sold over 3.83 million units in the current financial year.

TVS Motors has sold more than 2.16 million units whereas HMSI sales stood at 2.11 million units during April 2011 to March 2012 period. Yamaha India, Suzuki Motorcycle and Mahindra two wheelers sold 0.48 million, 0.34 million and 0.14 million units respectively during the period of April 2011 to March 2012. It seems that the industry may grow at double digit but the growth rate will be around 10-12% for the next financial year.
