In an official press statement sent to us, Honda has surprised by sharing that they will showcase their mid-sized sportsbike CBR500R at the upcoming Auto Show in Noida.
There have been constant murmurs about Honda launching either the CBR400R in India or this elder sibling CBR500R and this official unveiling for the first time in India, just hints at the possibility of the more powerful CBR taking precedence.
The new CBR500R looks sporty and aggressive and resembles the half-liter CBR600RR. In terms of its engine, it gets propelled by a 471cc parallel twin 8 valve liquid cooled fuel-injected motor which is capable of producing 47bhp of raw power and 50Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and it is mounted on a diamond-shaped steel tube frame.
It gets a single 320mm front petal disc brakes and 240mm rear petal discs and has an optional ABS variant on offer. CBR500R weighs in at around 193 kgs and has a wheelbase of 1410mm. A 120 section rubber does duty at the front and 160 at the rear, both 17 inchers. Seat height stands at a low 785mm. It is available in Black, Pearl White/Blue/Red and Red colour options.
CBR500R when brought to India will not have any direct competition and hence a good ssegment for Honda to venture into and take the first mover advantage. In terms of pricing, it starts at $6299 which equates to something close to Rs 4 Lakhs in INR.
Honda will try to gauge people’s response at the Auto Expo and based on that they will consider launching it in India.
