Honda to Launch Entry Level 100cc Bike Around Rs 40,000

After splitting up with Hero, it appears that the Japanese auto major is at an assault with their erstwhile partners. After stepping down the ladder with Dream Yuga, another news snippet of a lower variant has made way.

Reportedly, Honda is preparing a smaller motorcycle that will sit under its Twister and Dream Yuga and will compete head on with Splendor and other large sellers. Its not ascertained whether the new motorcycle will be a 100cc or a 110cc but we feel it might just be the same 110cc engine detuned for lesser power and torque figures in turn, enhancing the fuel efficiency of the bike.

Codenamed as ‘K23‘ this bike will be based on the same platform on which Dream Yuga spawns. And needless to say, that this is bound to strike Hero where it will hurt them the most. Honda has very aggressive plans in India and considering that 100cc is still the single largest segment in the country, an entry level bike from Honda will definitely give them many more volumes which they are currently missing out.

Honda is targeting K23 to be priced somewhere between 40,000 to 45,000 where it will also compete against Bajaj’s Discover series of motorcycles. There is another player bracing up for a slugfest in this segment, Mahindra! With their new offerings Pantero and Centuro, Mahindra plans to snatch a pie from the leader Hero.

Currently, for the last many decades, Hero (Hero Honda back then) has been the single largest seller in this smaller segment and has been invincible till now. But many people credited a major reason to the technology Honda provided to the JV. Now with Honda themselves going solo, it will be an interesting story to watch!
