Hero Vida will spawn electric 2-wheelers for the company. It is not known whether this is a wilful decision or it has been necessitated by legal issues…
Few weeks back, we got the first sniff of Hero MotoCorp’s new brand VIDA through patent filings and now we have the official word from the company.
Hero MotoCorp, the largest manufacturer of two-wheelers in India in ICE engines, have launched its new brand VIDA which will be used for their electric vehicles.
Due to the changing dynamics of the 2-wheeler market and a major push from the Indian Government, we are moving away from conventional petrol powered motorcycles and scooters, at a fairly good pace now – to electrically powered 2-wheelers. And that means that the legacy makers have to make a move – into a domain where start-ups are already causing disruption.
Following Bajaj and TVS, Hero have also announced their venture in this segment. Hero MotoCorp have coined ‘Vida’ to be their EV sub-brand. It was the talk of the town since last year however, theirs and Hero electric’s legal battle over the usage of the brand name ‘Hero’ have been a hurdle in this development.
The name ‘Vida’ means ‘Life’ in Spanish language and is further highlighted as ‘Sunshine’ in the brand’s logo. The EV brand’s main focus is ‘on sustainability and the vision of a flourishing meaningful world for future generations’.

Hero, which also have 35% share in Ather Energy, have been making a lot of strides in the EV domain. Last year, they announced their partnership with Taiwan based Gogoro and will be utilising their expertise in the battery swapping technology in their upcoming products.
And last month, they also partnered with Bharat Petroleum to establish and expand the charging infrastructure in order to improve the charging station availability for the masses.
