Hero to Launch HX250R, Karizma & Others in the US; Names Patented!

Erik Buell Racing had announced at last year’s AIMExpo that they will be distributing Hero MotoCorp branded motorcycles in North America. The motorcycles were supposed to be on sale by mid-2014. EBR had initially entered into a collaboration with Hero late in 2011, to develop a concept electric scooter before the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo.

Later on Hero went on to buy a 49.2 per cent stake in EBR. Hero was to get technological support from EBR while the American motorcycle manufacturer was getting liquidated thanks to the deal. They had also declared that they would be the distribution partner for Hero in North America.

While things do seem to be a bit late, as per a news report published in Motorcycle.com, Hero has filed trademarks in the US for five motorcycles on August 19, which include..

  • Splendor
  • Pleasure
  • Karizma
  • Hunk
  • Eco Deluxe

They further went on to file patents for Xtreme Sports (which is to launch soon in India), Splendor Pro Classic (Cafe Racer) and the upcoming single cylinder quarter litre HX250R.

We can expect some sort of an announcement regarding Hero MotoCorp’s entry in the US during this year’s AIMExpo which is scheduled to open on October 16. Hero has also announced that it will partner with the Tiger Woods Foundation to be the host of charity golf tournament between December 3 to December 7, 2014.

The HX250R will be a very significant motorcycle in Hero’s American line-up as they plan to target their erstwhile partner’s Honda CBR250R with that. The bike is more powerful than the CBR250R and is also a lot lighter! However, how would the going be for the relatively lesser known player in the big bike market like USA, it remains to be seen…
