This is a big month as two of the international auto giants who have partnered with Indian motorcycle makers reveal their first products – that will go to the market very soon. First up, it is the American manufacturer Harley Davidson that has revealed the X440 – which goes on to become the most affordable motorcycle in the manufacturer’s portfolio, EVER!
Manufactured by Hero MotorCorp, the Harley Davidson X440 comes across as a roadster styled motorcycle that gets Harley-specific design language. It is a localized ground-up project that will be made at Hero’s Garden Factory in Neemrana, Rajasthan.
The Harley X440 is equipped with an all-new 440cc, oil cooled, long stroke, single cylinder engine. It produces 27 bhp of peak power at 6000 rpm and 38 Nm of maximum torque at 4000 rpm. Harley claims that the motorcycle comes with a flat torque curve and almost 90 percent of all the torque is available right from 2000 rpm! The motor, that is OBD2 and E20 compliant, is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.
Braking duties on the X440 are performed by a 320 mm disc at the front and 240 mm rotor at the rear, further aided by dual channel ABS that is standard across all variants. Prominent features include all LED set-up, assist and slipper clutch, USB port, diamond cut alloys, auto headlamp illumination, etc.

There is a 3.5 mm TFT display that displays all the regular information. It also gets connected features wherein you get additional info like turn by turn navigation, music controls, accept and reject calls, missed call alert, message alert, etc.

Harley is offering the X440 in three variants and prices are aggressive and range from Rs 2.29 Lac to Rs 2.69 Lac. The entry variant is offered in Mustard Denim color theme, the Vivid gets Metallic Thick Red, Metallic Dark Silver colors whereas the top of the line trim comes in the Matte Black shade.
And before we go, Harley says, it will be hard to find much plastic in the motorcycle and it weighs 190.5 kilos. So, will the X440 change Harley’s fortunes? Will India move over Royal Enfields?
