Harley operations to restart next month; the legendary maker had exited India, leaving its dealerships ‘in the dark’. Hero will take over the distribution now!
The American, legendary motorcycle manufacturer – Harley Davidson had exited the Indian market back in September, citing financial reasons. Post this, several dealerships of the company claimed that Harley had ‘left them in the dark’, as they apparently received very little compensation.
Now, the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, India’s Hero Motocorp, has come to the rescue! For the uninitiated, the company had forged a partnership with Harley Davidson, as per which the former would take care of the sales, service, and distribution of the latter’s motorcycles in the country.
Now, Hero has inducted 10 Harley dealerships into its network. This move comes as a big respite to the ailing distributors, who had no idea of their existence in the future. According to reports, Hero has done the due diligence of all Harley dealers and signed contracts with ten of them at the moment.

The contracts will be valid effective 1st January 2021. Reports suggest that the company is already working on roping in new dealerships before 31st December. It will be interesting to know how Hero plans to take ‘Harley story’ forward in India.
