Harley Street 750 is a Hit; Sells 210 Units in April 2014

Year 2008! I was really excited about the Delhi Auto Expo as the legendary Harleys were to debut in India. Sadly, I could not be there at the Expo thanks to the wonderful timing by the University to overload us with examinations. Still I was really excited of the fact that they were finally here. I even religiously went to ogle at the motorcycles when the Delhi showroom was launched.

The advent of Street 750 was another time when my heart started beating frantically. The motorcycle is the first all-new Harley in more than a decade and is also the first product by the brand to be manufactured outside the US..did someone say the smallest ever..?

Street 750 has high levels of localisation and is the single most important model to rake up sales volumes for the company. Street 750 is already on sale in India at prices under 5 lakhs on-road at almost all cities in India. It is built at Harley’s facility in Haryana and the bike is already doing exceptionally well.

According to official figures from SIAM, (report on Economic Times), Harley Davidson has sold a total of 361 units in April 2014 out of which 210 were Street 750s. In comparison Harley sold just 146 units in April 2013. Reading between the lines, this also means that they actually sold less (126 bikes) of other bikes this year but the highlight is the Street 750.

It is also cleared by top Harley boss that local manufacture of Harley bikes will be limited only to the Street 750 and upcoming Street 500. The waiting period for Street 750 has also increased till September.
