Harley Davidson India to Promote Leisure Riding

Harley Davidson Motorcycles is likely to promote a new style of riding called Leisure Riding in India. It might soon become that this company, knows for its gorgeous and macho bikes would soon be made synonymous with the concept of leisure riding.

In a recent interview to the Mail Today, the spokesman of HD said, “Our aim is to make Harley- Davidson motorcycles accessible to all Indian consumers who want to experience the pure thrill of leisure riding. Biking is rapidly becoming an extension of the personality for the young at heart, which is fuelling the growth of Indian premium bike segment. There is a rapidly growing demand for products and brands that express the increasingly confident spirit of 21st century India, a demand that Harley- Davidson aims to fulfil.”

The Premium bike segment is India is facing a stiff competition with the entry of almost all major international bike makers into the country. As a result of this, the buyers in this segment are spoilt for choices. Triumph Motorcycles which is the right competitor for HD in many countries has also expressed its interest in launching its bikes out here in India.

This proves the very fact that like any other manufacturer, HD will also feel the heat of it here. Commenting on this, “The premium bike market in India is still at a nascent stage. The entry of various superbike manufacturers in the country reflects the strong opportunities that exist and we believe that this trend will help expand this segment further.

To strengthen our India operations, we commenced our assembly operations here earlier this year and introduced three new motorcycles through the CKD route in our Indian line- up. For the moment, we will continue to focus on our CKD operations in the country,” said the spokesperson.

Soon after the company entered Indian market, Harley Davidson Motorcycles had tied up with ICICI Bank as its preferred partner for financing its entire range of motorcycles in India, and under a memorandum of understanding signed between HD India and ICICI Bank, the latter will offer financial support of up to 85 per cent for the customers interested in booking a HD motorcycle at an interest rate of 11 per cent per annum for a period of up to five years. This enables the Indian customers to get their keys of the HD they prefer, if they can initially afford to pay just 15% of the tagged price.
