Mahindra began its journey into the world of two-wheelers by buying out Kinetic SYM’s joint venture. Things were highly turbulent back then for the Indian giant known for making utility vehicles such as Scorpio, XUV500 and others. First signs of improvement came up with the launch of Gusto 110 which surprised us with its levels of refinement.
Following this was the very interesting Mojo which truly marked their entry in the arena of motorcycles. But since it is a premium product, it can not bring them the volumes they can flaunt in their monthly charts. And as an obvious next step, they are making more affordable motorcycles.
First spyshots of what is touted to be a motorcycle with a new 150 cc engine have surfaced at Car and Bike.
They claim that this is a 155 cc engine and from the size of it, it does look bigger than 110-125 cc. Here is a closer look…
The report claims that this new single cylinder air cooled motor gets a single overhead cam and may churn out about 15 PS of power. The bare bones bike sporting it gets utilitarian features like spoke wheels, conventional rod-type handle bar, carrier and dual shock absorbers and suggests that Mahindra may be targeting the entry range in this segment. Focusing on domestic rural and export markets the twin pod instrumentation also gets basic analogue speedo, odo with high beam and turn indicators.

Even if this motorcycle doesn’t look very interesting, rest assured there will be many more models based on this engine (and platform) which will be more premium, in the near future. The whole game will revolve around – how well can Mahindra differentiate their 150s against others. After Mojo we are very hopeful…
