After UM, Cleveland (CCW) Shuts Indian Operations [Speculation]

After recent hints, Cleveland motorcycles seems to have closed its Indian chapter if a new online report is to be believed…

We are hardly done with the closure of UM Motorcycle’s Indian operations and another American maker appears to be joining the list. According to an online report, CCW or Cleveland Cyclewerks has ceased its operations in India.

CCW was launched in India at the 2018 Auto Expo which meant it grabbed the initial eyeballs. It officially announced the launch of two motorcycles – Ace and Misfit. While the Ace looked like a Chinese replica, Misfit was interesting. However, two things – disappointingly low specs and astronomical price tags meant that the brand never got going.

Back in July this year we had reported about the ‘missing’ Cleveland and that its official Indian website was non-functional with no updates on its social channels as well. You can read that report here.

In December last year, Cleveland informed us that it had received around 30 bookings and also slashed prices of its Ace by Rs 38,000. As far as we can dig, it had announced four dealerships and planned 30 in total by this year 2019.

This Ace looked extremely Chinese…

However, following that there is nothing.. no update.. no social media post.. no information etc! And according to the recent update, there is no operational Cleveland dealership in the country. The ABS versions were never launched and the factory has been nonoperational for the last eight odd months! Many employees were fired without any notice.

With no one to respond to queries, it will be hard for those handful of people who put their money down. It is not known how will things pan out in the future for this brand. But incidents like these will definitely shake our confidence in new brands!
