On May 23, we exclusively revealed that Triumph will launch its motorcycles in India this year. It had been brewing for a while now! Now, the whiff is out as iconic British manufacturer Triumph Motorcycles gets its Indian campaign back on track. Their ship had been drifting rudderless after their previous MD had stumped one and all by hanging his boots all of a sudden. As the official news pours in, we hear that Mr Vimal Sumbly has been appointed as the MD of the Indian theater of operations. Triumph Motorcycles India had been dormant on Facebook since the second week of May, but all of a sudden it is crackling with activity. Obviously, everyone was ready, infact waiting with anticipation for an official announcement regarding their Indian launch. It is out on their Facebook page now. We might need to pray though, that it just doesn't turn out to be a damp squib like the last time. Their statement on Facebook about hitting the roads by November 2013 has been greeted with a general outburst of joy, laced with some amount of hesitation. Regarding official statements from Triumph officials, there is the hackneyed expression of "making concerted efforts to provide honorable customers with desirable choices". What could be interesting, though, is the appointment of the new MD. Prior to Triumph, Vimal Sumbly was General Manager Sales at Bajaj Auto Ltd and has under his belt nearly a decade-and-a-half of experience in the Automobile domain. Vimal is an enthusiastic biker himself and is expected to lead the sales development and growth of Triumph here in India. Triumph has stated that some of its models will be assembled at the CKD assembly facility, which is getting finishing touches at Manesar, Haryana. Triumph is also scouting for dealer partners across strategic locations within India to ensure that they get a head-start in terms of sales. From genuine parts, seamless after-sales services to authentic merchandise and accessories, Triumph has promised to ensure a complete motorcycling experience. The models expected to go on sale here are the retro Triumph Bonneville, the racy Triumph Daytona 675 and the Edgy Brothers Street Triple as well as the Speed Triple. Prices are expected to be on the higher side as they will be importing a few models, atleast. Nevertheless, premium Indian Motorcycling enthusiasts have a lot to cherish.
