BS4 registration last date – this could be different for different states as local departments are defining their own ‘last dates’…
In 2018, the Honorable Supreme Court of India announced 31st March 2020 as the last date of sale and registration of Bharat Stage 4 compliant vehicles. Federation of Dealers Association recently wrote to the court to extend the date by a month or two to clear the massive inventory which was lying with dealerships.
However, the court quashed the request and retained 31st March 2020 as the last date for the registration of all BS4 two-wheelers, cars and commercial vehicles. After this date only vehicles complying to Bharat Stage 6 emission norms will be allowed to be registered in the country.
As a result, makers and dealers have been pushing their BS4 stock so that it gets liquidated in time. We have already reported that chances of BS3-to-BS4-like distress sales are very less. You can read that report here. Despite that, there have been reasonable discounts with different models at various dealers depending upon their stock levels. When you add the increased price of the BS6 variants, specially on the entry level carburetted variants, it becomes a case of bigger savings.

However, if you are in the market for a BS4 vehicle – mostly to save your bucks, you need to hurry as various regional transport offices are defining their own ‘last dates’ of registration with them. For example, MP Transport Department has today announced 25 March 2020 as the last date of registration of BS4 vehicles in Madhya Pradesh. After this date, it says, it will not take any fresh registration requests.
