Snazzy BMW CE02 Launched at 4.50 Lac, BUT WHY..?

BMW CE02 launch offers India an electric scooter-cum-motorcycle around that Rs 5 Lakh price tag. Who wanted it is a question that only BMW can answer!

BMW Motorrad is trying to do something different in electric two-wheelers. In a latest, the company has launched CE02 electric scooter – which looks, well snazzy but more on the weirder side! BMW says the CE02 is a middle ground between a scooter and a motorcycle.

The CE02 is offered with 3.92 KWH battery capacity (it comes with two 1.96 KWH batteries) which offer a claimed range of 108 km. The motor churns 11 KW of power and 55 Nm of torque – which propel the confusing scooter to a claimed top speed of 95 kph.

There are a lot of premium features offered with the CE02 scooter including golden colored upside down forks, ride modes, digital displays and others. With a seat height of 745mm, the CE02 is a very accessible 2-wheeler and it weighs 142 kilos.

The scooter, which frankly doesn’t look premium has been priced at 4.50 Lakh ex-showroom and being manufactured in India by its partner TVS Motor, this is confusing positioning.

Ridiculously Senseless BMW CE04 e-Scooter Launched at 14.90 Lakh

Aside all of this, the question is – what is the logic of launching such a weird looking scooter and at nerve-wrecking prices? Apart from the potential of it becoming a toy of the very influentials, the CE02 serves no purpose at all to me. Neither does it look premium so that it could be a boasting tool nor does it pack in out of the world specs that the premium junta may be lured to.

First the CE04 that was offered at around Rs 15 Lakh and now this the CE02 at 4.50 Lakh – only BMW knows what it is intending to do with its electric 2-wheeler business here in India.
