Yes, there is definitely a market for niche products but niche does not mean senselessness! A few days after Vespa introduced the pointless Vespa 946 in India, BMW has followed suit with its CE04!
CE04 could be called as an ultra premium electric scooter that comes at an astounding price tag of… wait a minute… 14.90 Lakh Indian Rupees – which is not needed here, at all!
For that amount it would come with a segment-best range, right? No, the German scoot is equipped with an 8.5 kWh battery that is good for, well, 130 km, only! Okay, so it would be lightening fast to charge? A big no here as well – as the CE04 is paired with a 2.3 kWh charger that takes 3.5 hours to charge the battery till 80 percent! So, a full charge would be close to 4.5 hours! And if you have to charge faster, you will need to shell out some more for a powerful charger; interesting!
Okay, to the good bits now! The brilliant looking scoot is powered by a liquid cooled electric motor that churns 31 kw (42 hp) of peak power and is good for a 0-50 kph sprint in claimed 2.6 seconds! The top speed is electronically limited at 120 kph. The scoot comes with big 15 inch broad tyres – 120 mm at the front and 160 mm at the rear.
There are three ride modes – Eco, Rain and Road. Aside that you get ABS and Automatic Stability Control (ASC). And if you want to flaunt more – you have the option of getting the Comfort Package – that adds Heated Grips, Backrest comfort seat; and the Dynamic Package – that adds Riding Modes Pro (may be more modes!), Headlight Pro, ABS Pro, Adaptive Headlights and Daytime Running Lights.

There is a (thankfully) standard 10.25 inch split TFT display and you also get Bluetooth connectivity. I just read in the press release that the price mentioned here is for the base variant which comes in white shade. If you want to splash some more money you can go for the Avantgarde style which will get you the imperial blue metallic color aside some orange ascents!
Deliveries of the BMW CE04 would commence from September 2024 onwards, ie if it gets some buyers. Availability is restricted to some metropolitan cities only considering the senselessness of the product!
