After making Discover 1 million a year brand Bajaj auto is mulling to make Discover 2 million a year brand. The capacity expansion will take place from the next month to achieve the target. The company officials said that for taking its star brand (Discover) to new heights, the company is in process of enhancing its production capacity to 2 million units annually by next month to cater increased demand.
Currently the company is producing 1.5 million units of Discover annually. Last month it has sold 1,27,397 units of Discover. The 100 cc Discover has done around 90,000 units and the 150 CC has done around 35,000 units. The brand Discover has also snatched second position from Passion and currently closing the gap to Splendor in terms of sale.
Bajaj Auto’s arch rival Hero Honda also admitted that its market share is under pressure due to Discover brand. Hero Honda said that their market share declined to 61.62% in the April-August period in this fiscal from 73.85% in the April-August period last fiscal in 75 cc and above but less than 125 cc category where as Bajaj Auto market share is increased from 16.64% to 25.71% in the same period and the credit goes to Bajaj Discover 100cc which was introduced in the month of July last year. With the current growth rate it seems that Discover will soon become 2 million a year brand.
